@TheDungeonDelver

One more question, is the version that you used an original? I found TFX for the PC on an abandonware site but it fails to start in DosBox. No error messages, it just doesn't run the executable. Config.exe works fine though. Heh, typical.

AFAIK, it was not made available other than on the CD. It might have also been on a couple of CD's following this one, but I couldn't be certain. You could speak to these guys to see if they still have one of the CD's around (Near the bottom).

I've got the disc with TFX on it, but I wasn't aware there were updated executables available.

Since we're feeling so optimistic, why not port Lock-on and the Flamming Cliffs expansion? (cough cough)

I would like to see flight sim toolkit port to classig amiga, it could work quite well and be better looking than TFX.

There is hundres fligh sims to it, some of them look quite good and some doesn't.

I'd like to see it ported too.

What's the GFX engine actually capable of though? The shots I've seen so far are very primative. We have a little grunt behind OS4 at the moment. It'd be a shame not to utilise that as much as possible.

After TFX was released in it's not so stable condition on CUAmiga (October 97, Super CD Rom #15) we had a couple of updates to the executable file here.

Hey, i didn't know about these updates! But i just tried them and none of them work. They crash my Amiga. Is there anyone here who was able to run these?

@FuZion

I wasn't even aware that they existed.

I really miss playing TFX and my favourite flight sim "Tornado".

I have these backed on on CD so hopefully will be able to play them again using AmigaForever or UAE as they both require chipset. Shame that neither was ported to run on graphics card!

I'm curious about the sources ? assembler / C or what?

I would like to see this game for classic migas it might work well with 68k amigas and look better than tfx.

Yes, agreed - my recollection of TFX was it worked quite well, but I think the FPU version of the game disabled the cannon, and I don't think the 040 version actually worked or at least not on an 060, never had an 040. And with AGA as a bottleneck and no rtg option we were not going to see greased lightning.

But yeah, a 68xxx version would get some serious use here. :)

Is that the AGA version of Tornado. It looked very nice but a shame about the speed - even on 060. :( Having said that, the demo looks very cool with all the different aircraft, the trucks and trains etc. :)

Don't know if you've tried the WHDLoad install for Birds of Prey, I've not looked in depth but I gather its taking full adavntage of fast cpu`s and actually seems very cool.

I've recently been trying some Mac emulation with Shapeshifter and I gather some of the flight-sims that ran on 68k (probably 040) Macs are really quite impressive.

@sicky

Yeah, Tornado was something special too. One of my faves was also Birds of Prey. The game play always reminded me of F/A-18 Interceptor, only with more on the GFX. When I finally got this installled with WHDLoad & ran it on my 060 it fleeeewwwwww (No pun intended).

OT but mentioned here: I'm really thinking of heading to an Apple store now to grab a Mac.

Yeah, birds of prey and JetPilot are the most realistic flight simulators available for the Amiga. TFX has too many bugs in the flight model. Don't forget that it's the sequel of the 3D shoot 'em up F-29 retaliator.

Don't forget the fastest and most detailed flightsim - Combat air patrol.
That's the best, with F-15 II

Birds of Prey and Gunship2000 are my must have flight sims, if these could have RTG output I would be happy. Add a few more and it's Heavan on Earth.
