When ackcontrols released news of his upcoming A1 CPU modules, he also mentioned (in the comments of the news item) that they were going to be used in a new upcoming product as well. Well, he had this to say in the forums last week:

post #395:
Quote:
I've never quite understood the rationale that if I've not seen it, it doesn't exist. Boards will not be released to beta-testers as beta products, they will be delivered as final product. A high end board will be demonstrated approximately one month after the CPUs are demoed. Period.

Link to interesting OS4 hardware message

Sounds like we'll know all about these babys in 1-2 months. I want one.

@jahc

After Adam's past announcements (btw, none of them was fulfilled) I take further plans, news, announcements, "in production" statements from him with a grain of salt.

Yes, it would be nice "if". But let's first wait for the presentation of CPU-modules next monday. Is there already some info on where they will be demonstrated?

Agree one step at a time.

Hi,

jeaaa ... if a decent 3D package available [Realsoft or better (Softimage/Maya) ]
then the 1,7Ghz module is a nice start for my renderfarm

But i like for my main Amiga better an Double 1,7Ghz module .... (little dream ..
big Dream is from an Power5+ Module ....)

@ikir

As I have an AmigaOne I am not overly interested myself but this is really good news for the Amiga community. What we really need know is AmigaOS 4 compatible hardware.

What we really need is cheap enty-level hardware. I don't see how a so-called high-end board can considerably expand the user-base when even the most basic stuff for this OS is missing. You don't get many new developers on the bandwagon with a >1000$ board. But let's see what exactly will be demonstrated (maybe it's just a bundle of old A1s equipped with a 1.7Ghz CPU board).

If I where Adam, I would concentrate on solutions such as the Powervixxen (including a stand-alone package!). When there are enough sales to make any profit, I would check if it would be viable to produce/sell something with higher specs/price. One step at a time.

Assuming any new product appears that runs OS4 I think it will sell pretty well at this point. And considering nobody is likely to get rich from all this it amazes me that companies like ACK try at all really. Oh yes, and put me down for one--whatever it is.

What keeps you from venturing out on your own? I'm sure Adam has made some sane decisions with his planned and projected line-up.

Generally when someone has an idea of doing things better then others in the same playfield, it is more then enough reason to proceed on your own. So if you think a 'PowerVixxen' is best for the Amiga market then make a plan, make a desig, ask for a couple of components, make a first version (, and a second, and a third etc., etc.), make choices, make announcements (not to many: VapourWare! Not to little: The project is dead!), remain inspired by all the contradictive advice folks throw at you unasked, keep your wife satisfied, remain sane, live an enjoyable life and finally get your beast to market and wait for its acceptance... or failure, for that risk is part of the game!

Driving the car from the rear seat: when all goes well it's you that gave the directions and therefore you deserve the credits, but when thing went wrong then you were not the driver and you're not to blame...

Me too. I'd buy a ball-point pen if it ran OS4.

@ssolie

Yes, I'd want one just to get rid of all the nasty hw bugs that are present on the A1, preventing proper 'multi-media' use.

Something similar to this? It's an interesting idea, but I think that the user-interface is a bit restrictive. I still prefer a good old screen, keyboard & mouse.

@DaveAE

The only problem I have whit multimedia on OS4 is the mixture of 3D and sound (3D games)
