| @Hondo_DK Conversely, some folks could be looking for an OS that is vastly easier to install & use than Vista or Linux, so there could be a lot of sales, provided there's some actual hardware to run AmigaOS4 on.

But neither OS4, MOS or AmigOS 3.9 are "easier to use" for a computer newbie than e.g. XP, Vista or Ubuntu are. It just appears to most of us like that because we have been using these operating systems for years/decades already. We are familar with editing filetypes, startup-sequence, ENV-variables, setting up custom screenmodes, etc., but this is not what Joe average would handle that easily. And the boot-time argument is only relevant when you frequently have to reboot - e.g. when an application crash causes the whole OS to become instable (->memory protection?). With my installations of XP and Ubuntu, boot-up time is not so important than with my Amiga, because I usually never have to reboot those OS. XP and Ubuntu are rock-stable. |

That's one of the things I like about AOS: it's ease of use. I can add or delete stuff from it without major problems. My Windows experience has been the absolute opposite: I can't change a simple file without all coming crashing down on me.
But I guess most users don't care about this and that's why we won't break through unless we can find a way to add some essential tools and features. You know, the usual: an up-to-date browser, an office suite, some hi-quality games, file format compatibility. |

AmigaOS4.0 final seems to be targetted for launch around christmas 2006 (after recent gossip/announcements) YIHAAAA!!! fingers crossed!! |
1) There is still no 'OFFICIAL' release date for either OS4.0 or the any rumoured hardware that could be used to run it!!
2) Fingers Crossed!! - Sums it up really. Microsoft are not crossing their fingers as to whether their product will ship or not, they are worried as to how many gazillion copies they will sell compared to their other OS's!!
OS4.0 is not a threat to Vista and if you want it summed up by our cheery moderators, check this topic out :
Sam's ETA & possible Launch Titles?
I wouldn't worry that their marketing will dwarf OS4.0. The simple fact is that OS4.0 will have zero marketing because it's a 'CONCEPT MACHINE' with little real world use (other than programming/development) out of the box.
Mozilla browser will not necessarily be ready on launch, Pagestream may or may not be released at a later date, and the crusade to get Deluxe Paint released as freeware has crawled to a halt. Pardon me for clinging ever tighter to my classic 'miggy which has real world uses and is one of the most user friendly 'HOME COMPUTERS' I have ever used. If Amiga Inc/Hyperion/"enter hardware manufacturer here" have lost sight of what an Amiga computer's strong points should be (ie. easy to use, home computer) then what the hell is the point dragging on as a buggy HOBBYIST MACHINE???!!!!!
This reality annoys me, but is sadly the way this 'Fanboy'/'Hobbyist' machine has gone!!_________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." John Lasseter, Co-Founder of Pixar Animation Studios |

That is is one of the most insightful posts I've ever seen here.
A friend of mine recently pointed me to this article, not in regards to the current AmigaOne Partners situation but that was the first thing that came to mind when reading the article: LINK_________________ Here for the whimpering end |

I know what you mean, but I don't think the introduction of Vista and OS4.0 at the same time, if that what actually happens will make any difference IMHO.

The user TrevorDick believes simultaneous release of Windows Vista and OS4.0 won't significantly impact users or their choices between operating systems. He suggests the introduction timing is unlikely to be a deciding factor for consumers when choosing an operating system. |
