And YES the first version of DE was being talked about with the name OS4.

I honestly don't remember that part. I remember it being touted as a "self-hosted" capable thing which could be Linux or Windows-hosted as well, which ended up being only Linux/Windows hosted and never self-hosted. But I don't remember it ever being named anything other than AmigaDE until the newer AmigaAnywhere name. I do remember talk of adding AmigaOS as a foreign host at 4.something (higher than 4.0, either OS4.2 or 4.5), and some full integration for OS5.

I was never privvy to any of those roadmap handouts or anything you mention in another post, so may not have had access to some things that did claim that OS4 == DE at the time. If that's the case, I appologize, but I honestly was never exposed to anything that referred to DE as OS4 and find it hard to believe.

@billt

There is another thread called "Reality Check" that is better suited to this discussion.

And even if the first version of DE was being "talked" about with a different name it doesnt make it anything different itself, it was never a PPC port of 3.9 with extras.

This thread is about peoples first impression of Effika.

@Akiko

"modern applications" that need more physical RAM than that will also need much more CPU power as offered by EFIKA. Adding more RAM will substantly increase the price (remember 20Euro are allready +10%), it will eat more power (the RAM allready draws more than the CPU) and Genesi's real costumers (companies useing EFIKA for embeeded tasks) won't feel any difference.

Sure, adding more RAM sounds nice, so would USB2,SATA,FireWire..... Finding the sweet point where performance, features and price meet to form a viable product is whats important.

Genesi should focus on optimizing EFIKA's efficiency rather than just increasing hardware capabilities which may not justify additional costs for their target market of embedded systems.
