@aracnet

Amiga classic computer need step by step improvments. The Thomas H. is one step of the work.

@BigGun

Thanks for the additionnal explanations, BigGun

Sad thomas H. can't explain himself his work here and hope someone will made for him an internet site.

- Improve Amiga chipset and put on one FPGA !!!

- get rid of the zorroII A1200 bus to something better !!!

- Use modern and updated compoments for a A1200 new motherboard !!!!

The dream .

@BigGun

Interesting report. Thanks for that, and the links to the project site. This shows great promise.

This is all so cool.
But I'm confused of what to call crazy in times of 8core 32GB-Ram!!! computer like the new mac pro..

OT
btw nead idea with the cable-free HD-slots..

edit: mac pro, it's called mac pro not powermac pro!

@BigGun

I wish this meeting has been better advertised! I have been on exchange in Karlsruhe for this year, and I would've liked to visit. I didn't know about it..

(Another interesting Amiga thing missed, oh well..)

Regards..

Hello,

An old (I think) link found on amiga-news.de about natami.

This is Thomas home page for this project.
No offence but it would be cool if web designer could help him here.

@BigGun

I have an interest in this type of development.

I would like to purchase a complete or beta product.

Its not as powerful as modern machines, but with a PCI Express slot it is possible to plug in a Multi Core PPC accelerator with perhaps a Cell Processor add on also.

A Lot of people like minimi, but i really don't see what is the benefit of it. This project has a lot of benefit, so worth the try if it became coplete.

Possible Advantages:
-Its like a new amiga1200, so no need to worry about dying computer parts of the 1200.
-At least it has 68030. ( a ppc add-on cpu will be a true solution)
-atx form, can use atx power supply.
-Faster built in ide.
-16bit built in soun will be good.
-SDRAM is good and faster than any amiga ram solution, can be expandable, but sdram is obsolote now.

I do see the point of the MiniMig, I do not really see the point of this, other than amusement value for people who like programming retro systems.

@Zardoz

You are correct these are pro-type learning aids. If it helps a student or professional grasp and fine tune their engineering and design skills, then its a mission accomplished.

If it ever reaches a market then it will be time for the marketing boys and girls that are looking to gain some experience or boost their existing exposure to do so.

The Phoenix BIOS stared like these FGPA programs with no existing customer base.
Just a potential.

This has more potential, cause there already is an existing support base and once clear success story.

I would really appreaciate a true Amiga like successor with custom chips and maybe a 68060 or Coldfire (where i would prefere the Coldfire for cost reasons), especially if it is cheap to produce (enough quantity given). I do not need a PPC based dual core 3 GHz computer at home, i have an (probably cheaper) x86 for that.

As i see it MiniMig is an development Platform, nobody who has an A1200 with a 030 in it would go back to it. But i can imagine these people upgrading to a 060/CF equipped AGA+ system that would let them play mp3 in real 16 bit and supports 24 Bit scandoubled screenmodes without add on hardware.

Yes i do know that i can do all of this on a Efika/Lime PC but they are no Amiga style HW.

@Donar

I agree this is a pure development platform. I mean who on earth is going to need to simulate the latest PPC hardware in FPGA.

But classic Amiga's where most of the fundamentals of pre-emotive multi-tasking multimedia
still survives is what the keen FPGA developer / designer should be digging there teeth into.

These are truly rewarding projects and any Amigan can tell you one more Amiga is another step towards our #1 aim, the expansion of the platform and user base.

AmigaWorld Members - 3985 in Jan 2006
AmigaWorld Members - 2835 in Jan 2007
AmigaWorld Members - 3357 in Jan 2008

So we can see people are actually returning to the Amiga World simply because there is more on offer. More things for people to explore and more areas for people to innovate and get involved in.

I think you got my post wrong. I like both projects, i just wanted to point out that seeing an A500 replacement as a achievement, while dismissing a 060 AGA system is a bit strange for me.

Not necessarily the right conclusion from that data.
The user rolls here were purged of inactive accounts during that time, hence the drop.

@Donar

I do not think that it will be cheaper than any other x86 solution for such a project. You can get a complete new laptop with sempron for 699 usd in my country without windows but with linux. If this kind of project is for hobbiest I think minimig is better option because of cost. Because infact these projects are hardware emulators.

Instead of these project you can get a fast x86 hardware and use it as decent Classic Amiga with Uae for your good memmories. You can listen your mp3 even play your old games. Also if there will be a floppy interface/Special Floppy which supports ADFs inside UAE it will be most competable classic Amiga.

Please remember Amithlon the best Emulator which feels you that you are using a descent Amiga with Picasso Gfx card which supports 3D sound cards instead of 16 or 8 bit sounds, TV cars, Ethernet. Unfortunately it is ended seems like we never saw something like for near future(hope is AROS), it was like a new AmigaOS for your PC. If its support would continue, i am sure that it will be great development platform for AmigaOS.

Please do not understand me wrong.Designing a hardware especially Amiga like hardware or software is very hard job. I only think that capable of people should think to design more general hardwares or software for all amigans or potential amigans. They can help us to realse our platform from Fights or stupid Lawsuits.

For example :
- An USB floppy which can read real Amiga disks (this can be used for A1, UAEs even classic Amiga.)
- New amithlon style 68K Amiga emulator for x86(Or A1 emulator may be with an optimized Pear PPC)
-A new PPC Turbo cards for our current clasic Amigas. This can be as same speed with our old blizzard PPC to be cheap and competable.
-Help AROS team o get better os,drivers.

Although I appreciate the hard work of more modern versions of Classic Amiga boards, I really do not understand why do we need such a limited future systems. I mean instead of sticking old 68K or its modern versions like Cold Fire, why people does not work for future capable designs or hacks to run current OS4,0 .

In our current situation, I think we need one of these :
- A modern PPC mainboard. Or A1 Clone which works like A1 ( may be emulated against legal situations)
- A new PPC turbo board compatible with our Cyberstorms or Blizzards.
- Better supported Aros which has real Emulator inside for classic applications.
- Amithlon type a emulator for SAM which may work nearly native for AmigaOS4 until real version for SAM will out.

... And ofcourse Better company than Amiga Inc.

Well... hacking the hardware of an Amiga PPC board to be rebuilt into NatAmi will be an hard job...

Let them to develop first the 68030 final system, and then upgrade it to 68060 and to Coldfire too...

At least the CPU of NatAmi it lays on CPU card... You just need a different CPU card to add 68060 or Coldfire...

It is more easy than realize a complete new motherboard layout design each time you change processor...

I believe that soon we will see PPC version also, just if this guy have right the hardware skills that I presume he has...

And sure with NatAmi he demonstrated he *HAS* P0w44 H4rdw4r3 5k1llz...

P.S.

Someone who could make a whistle to ACube for signalling and financing this project?

P.S. Again

Minimig, Clone-A, NatAmi!

OMG! Year 2008 will see a true Rampage Of Amiga Clones!

What a Bonanza!
