Should be able to do that tonight.

You said there are no benchmarks where AmigaOne could outperform Pegasos 2 G4, so I just pointed out that this is only the case when the Pegasos2 is fitted with a faster G4 than the AmigaOne.

Bleh, I know Pegasos 2 users with G4 clocked up to 1.4 GHz.

Cool, where can I get a 1.4Ghz CPU module for my Peg2?

@COBRA

Nowhere because only very few samples were made.

But ok, I can accept that A1 can sometimes outperform Pegasos 2

Thanks If I wanted to be a bit evil, I could easily post benchmarks showing that even the microA1-G3 beats the Pegasos2 in most tests under OS4, which is obviously due to that bug in the peg2 IDE driver

@COBRA

If I wanted to be a bit evil, I can assume that the bug in IDE driver has been done on purpose, to prove that A1 is a better design, but while the strategy failed miserably, it will be eventually fixed.

Benchmarks can be misleading. Benchmarks can also show how people are in bad faith...

Just because this is your prefered OS doesn't mean it performs the best.

about WB being outdated ... Ambient seems to be open source nowdays, anyone tried to port it to AOS4??

Ambinet is open source, but depends heavily on MUI4. As long a sMUI4 is not available for OS4 it will require major changes.
Plus, if you use Ambient you loose exactly that what many ppl prefer in OS4, the exact look and feel of AOS3.x. mayn ppl complain about Ambient being so differnt from WB and not being enough "Amiga". If you now don't care about the WB look & feel, then my slightly heretic question is: why not use MorphOS directly?

I think more people complain about the WB being slow and unusable (and turn out using the CLI after all) than the one complaining about the WB not being "Amiga".

@Totally_Blind_Mule
This way please. The story is, ACube was offering fix for broken CPU modules, and they were installing higher performance CPUs (ie. 1.2Ghz G4s) in place of the broken ones.

However, as a notice says on the page, this service seems to be discontinued. So either get a card which went through this process 2nd hand, or you're out of luck.

Heh, I didn't notice that it's discontinued, good catch... wonder what's the reason for it?

Uhhh, maybe it's because the G4 went out of production years ago and they don't have the time to scour eBay for used G4s!!!!

@COBRA

If you really want the extra speed you can overclock your Peg2/G4 to 1.25Ghz without too many problems. (I wouldn't risk my machine overclocking it, thought)

@ferrels

Who told you the G4 is out of production?

Freescale never retires a chip, you know:

http://www.freescale.com/webapp/sps/site/prod_summary.jsp?code=MPC7457&tab=Buy_Parametric_Tab&fromSearch=false

Still in active service according to freescale. They even took up production of the 68000 chips (as in 68hc000, not 680x0), for crying out loud.

Where did you get that idea from?
WB is not slow, maybe it slow when you don’t have working UDMA driver like on your Pegasus II, but on my AmigaONE its fast, yes there exists faster (native PowerPC) desktops like Scalos but I use Workbench anyway, I guess I like it more.

It will be nice to see how Pegasus II whit MorphOS compares whit OS4 when the UDMA driver is fixed, boot speed, and mplayer and directory listing.

Hopefully Hyperion gets there support and download service up and running again, so the updates can be made available.
The most often complaint I have seen is SHELL/CLI, because it does not have a history (scrollbar), this makes it useless when you need to compile some thing and GCC dumps 1000 or more lines of errors and warnings like it often do, KingCON is the first application I install after a clean installation of AmigaOS4.X.
Then I install the PNG plug-in because there are more icons in that format.

You don’t need to use CLI, its easy to copy/move/rename files in OS4, default tools are easy to assign using def icons, I don’t think there are many things you need CLI for unless you write programs.

Uncompress files are done using UnArc its already configured in Def icons, so there is no need to use CLI to decompress files.

More advanced operation I use Directory Opus 4, it does the job perfectly.

The only thing you does require some knowledge on how to AmigaOS works is the Assigns in user-startup, but they if your not interested in how the OS works then maybe a mainstream operating systems is more for you.

Ok, then wise guy. Try to buy a handful of them to upgrade your Peg or A1. Nothing but Freescale propaganda.......
