It does? file selection works okay here, what did you see a problem with?

| Personally i like the news about os4. I.e. new shell (can't say that Kcon which i use now are bad, but "shell" it's very importand piece of OS, so very good that devels spend time one it). Or impovement of intutiion are nice (at moment, these "empty" and a bit "primitive" windowses of os4 not looks so good). And good to hear about many not visibly fixes (like DOS.library :) ).
Also nice to see afxgroup's programms. At last mplayer with GUI (looks very closed to GMplayer , but as i read it is not). Was interesting to test Gnash. And these games are intersting to have too :) (For example Billiard one looks finished and must have :) ).

| It is great news about Gnash on MorphOS but the question is when will there be Gnash on OWB for OS4.1.
It is also very nice to hear about some of the new things being implemented in OS4.1. _________________ 1 AmigaOne G4XE (OS4 Pre-Release Update4) Minimig Sam440ep + OS4.1FE Sam460cr + OS4.1FE |

Actually Gnash is for OS4.1. MorphOS had a version of swfdec on show._________________ Common sense - So rare it's almost like a super power |

Hi, very good video editing.
On video 1, at 6:10 to 6:25, anybody know what that BOOT sequence is? It's a bit different to the usual default boot sequence. Any ideas ??? anyone??? |
it's startupmanager. have a look at os4depot. already available, usable and a must have. afaik it will be part of future os4 updates.

Well, it's derived from StartupManager, but brought up to date, and now fully integrated into the system.

| All in all I think it's some great news for AmigaOS4.1 users, looking forward to the update(s) and new information about the "ambitious project". _________________

I suppose it is the PCB of the future NAS announced by ACube before the week-end. One of the previous post in this thread talks about it (board with a PPC 460 and a mini-PCI slot, but not targetting the Amiga market).

- new notification system: all applications registered to the application.library can send notifications to the notification server (called Ringhio) that can be configured to display them on the WB screen. This feature was shown in conjunction with a new version of XNet-RSS: every time an RSS feed is updated, a notifications pops up and disappears after a few seconds. If you click on it, you will open a browser on the page of the relevant news. The concept can of course be extended to other uses. |
SabreMSN has used this for some time, and is present in the current executable. When the OS4.1 update is ready, SabreMSN users will be able to enjoy MSN popups immediately, as Sabre auto detects whether the Notification system is being used.Popup alerts are used for new messages and people coming online, and double clicking on it will open a new tab, or take you to the right tab and activate it.
SimplePlay 3.8 also uses it, to display now playing information when a song starts.
Both are completely optional and can be turned on and off of course. :)

Thanks for the more detailed report. I really love the news about the new shell with multitab and kingcon feature. If this means i can finally ditch kingcon and have something like this already in the system its really cool. And i like the startupmanager. I hated wbstartup drawer from the beginning. I want to have the files in its own dir :) Notification is something i miss too. Just see windows. Its a cool feature so that other programs could use it for example amidock (i prefer and use amistart).
MPlayer with gui also something i missed even if there already was one from deniil but i like builtin :) I hope it gets skinnable so that we can at least change the button/slider bar and make our own cool images. Digibooster i hope gets a release version soon so we can se even more continued work like more plugins/midi etc. I would like to use it sometime in future together and then export the thing into hd-rec and edit the music. But we will see what the future has for us. I would also like to see HD-Rec grow even more with more plugins. For example i love the multibandcompressor in wavelab on pc. But thats another story.
Too bad to hear that usb2.0 maybe will not come in the next release. I would really like to see this as im fed up with usb1.1. If not then i hope that a fix will be to not get corrupted filesystem when transfering to usbmemstick.
And i wish Acube would do some new HW that is at least 1.5ghz so i could get me something worth updating after my amigaoneG4Xe. Its getting old and Sam's cant give me that. Its a nice system for these that dont have a amigaone or likely, specially the classic users. I would like to have a Laptop but that is too much to wish for. I like the smallness of sam so a faster one would be something for me. Easier to bring on parties :)
Anyway thanks for the review. Im eager to see mplayer, os4update, new sabre etc....

Hmm, I wonder if the long-standing pattern matching bug which I've been complaining about since day 1 of the OS4.0 pre-release, has been fixed?

but it's highly likely that the mode you want will already be in the database, if not, you are probably defining a mode that is not supported by the monitor. |
Still, it is important to let the user free of trying his own modes. Here's a practical example.
I have an LCD monitor whose native resolution is 1440x900. These are the modes I have defined: MODE=1440x900x8,32@60 MODE=720x450x8,32@60 MODE=480x300x32@60 MODE=384x240x32@60
|
I agree that the screenmode prefs could use an update. Ideally the main window would only list the resolutions, and you could choose the number of colours and refresh rate elsewhere. However, getting the screenmodes via DDC is a much needed feature, and has nothing to do with deciding things for the user. Far from it, it gives the user a much better idea of what the monitor is capable of; expecting the user to read the monitor's manual and enter the numbers into the tooltypes was archaic on user unfriendly.
Don't worry, it can be disabled if you wish, and you can still add your own modes.
