| Also ACube will have a product that has PPC460 that can house one or several cores. The product is not targetted to be sold to Amiganms, but perhaps Hyperion could use it anyway.
Also,IIRC, Hyperion has a dualG4 CPU card for AmigaOneXE, so that most likely would be te first test bed. _________________ - KimmoK // For freedom, for honor, for AMIGA // // Thing that I should find more time for: CC64 - 64bit Community Computer? |

Why on earth do people keep naming there programs/applications (arent these the same thing ??) in such a way that it sounds cool, but nobody without knowledge of that app, can actually guess what it does by it's name ?
Example: Ringhio ???? Well it was explained wat it is and does, but for gods sake call it something like Notifier or something. |
It is an Italian word for Growl, or Snarl . Presumably because the program "Growls at you". Hey if we were all Italian it would probably be obvious to us.
Anyway, I think it's a play on Rigo (Simon Archer), as in Ri(n)go's I/O. Last edited by Swoop on 26-Oct-2009 at 12:01 PM.

And it may be simmilar to the 3rd party OSX notification system called Growl , maybe this is what inspired it _________________

While that distribution is it's predecessor, the functionality now built into AmigaOS is much more integrated, and also includes features not originally in the old system.
StartupManager was designed to be a "bolt-on" package in order to achieve its goal, what is in the OS is completely integrated into the workbench.library and Preferences system.

I'm currently using StartupManager and I must admit I have adopted it (currently only for my own added applications into wbstartup drawer).
One thing I'd like to see is (maybe as an option) the "progress window" with a solid background whatever is configured for transparency of inactive windows. Here on a 1280x1024 screen with the default OS 4.1 background it gives strange visual result (no bug, only a strange effect of the transparency combining my background and my launched icons) when transparency of inactive windows is enabled. Another solution would be to force the progress window to be the active one, but I does not feel very clean to me...
Anyway thank you for those informations I really appreciate knowing things that are coming be it in the short term or a relative mid term, even if they are only plans, it's good to know a general direction.
PS: I'm already dying to be able to use the tabbed shell , I hope you (AOS4 devs) will be able to fine tune it relatively soonish so it can be included in the next update _________________ AOS 4.1 : I dream it, Hyperion did it ! Now dreaming AOS 4.2... Thank you to all devs involved for this great job ! |

All these problems have been sorted out in the latest embedded version.

Due to the sheer scale of the work involved, and the amount of hacks that have to be supported from the previous versions, the workload is huge. As such, the project i still ongoing to make it as compatible as possible with the old shell/console/con-handler.
I would certainly not put my money on it being included with the 4.1 update 1.

Better USB support. I hope they mean USB2.0, or atleast turning CrashDOSfilesystem into CrossDOSfilesystem |
If USB 2.0 doesn't make it in the update, I hope the current stack gets at least improved. So that I don't have to fear that a friend brings data on his USB stick only to laugh in my face because OS4.1/SAM won't recognize the device. Or that my iPod contents becomes trashed and must be reset. Or that of two T-series Sony Ericsson phones, one gets recognized but the other does not. (I'd say "annoying" but it's much more than that.)_________________ The Rear Window blog

| @rigo Can OS4.1.1 import StartupManager's settings? Or would I be better waiting for OS4.1.1 before ditching WbStartup? _________________ Author of the PortablE programming language. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue... |

That sounds good - my SanDisk Cruzer Mini USB stick (a 2GB one) is not recognized either on my SAM. So let's hope things have improved._________________ The Rear Window blog

I can understand that, I once had a discussion about tabbed shells with Olaf Barthel on Utilitybase and he explained this to me very well._________________ AOS 4.1 : I dream it, Hyperion did it ! Now dreaming AOS 4.2... Thank you to all devs involved for this great job ! |

I dont think so, I'm sure I had to extend the structure.
I can't remember now if it will still load the old prefs correctly, best to wait.

If it can run Quake 3 at decent speeds, then I suspect it can manage to represent a window as a few triangles... I'd guess that the "physics" calculations would be the harder job, but again if it can do Quake 3, then it would hopefully have enough power for that as well._________________ Author of the PortablE programming language. | @ChrisH In 4.2 I would like to see such fancy effects (like some I saw in Compix) some features are just EyeCandy (which I do not despise) other are quite useful (like the Exposè style window selectors).

| @DAX Expose is for OSes that don't support Screens . But I think SOME form of eye-candy is quite likely, because when Compositing was first revealed, Rogue mentioned that it would allow eye-candy like wobbly windows. _________________ Author of the PortablE programming language.
