the Titan should be with 2 cores and 2 GHZ

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titan_%28microprocessor%29

but in wiki stand.

"""
but was scrapped in 2010 according to reports.
"""

look really bad in PPC world....

I guess the 1.8 GHZ pa6 are cheap to have because pa6 normaly is 2 ghz, and those pa6 with 1.8 GHZ do not reach the specs for 2 GHZ, only 1.8 ghz

The 2GHz version was required by the military, if the X1000 had one, the price for the system would be double or more over the current price.

@sundown

according to Varisys, the 2 GHz version was used in marketing material and never really produced or offered for sale.

@KimmoK

Because it seems 2.48 and 2.49 versions of blender are slow...
Some summary of non 2.48...2.49 results:

112s blender 2.62 PA6T 1.8Ghz Dualcore (LinuxMint)
113s blender 2.62 G4 1.8Ghz DualCPU !
115s blender 2.43 G5 2.3Ghz Dualcore (erroneously reported singlecore?)
117s blender 2.44 G5 2.3Ghz Dualcore
202s blender 2.5a PowerBook 1667Mhz
205s blender latest PowerBook 1667Mhz (Piru)
256s blender 2.42 PowerBook 1667Mhz
305s blender 2.43 PowerBook 1667Mhz
318s blender 2.44 PMac 1600Mhz
368s blender 2.43 MacMini 1420Mhz

It seems G5 tests should be redone with Linux Mint & 2.62 blender.

Also, it would be nice to see single core result for x1000+blender 2.62.
(it should be around 225...235?)

When single core G4 seems faster per Mhz than PA6T per core, in dualcore/dualcpu configuration PA6T scales better and then G4 and PA6T seem equal. With blender 2.62 I expect G5 to jump back to top, because it has signifficantly higher clock rate.

btw. Just out of curiosity, I wonderhow much those dual 1.8Ghz G4 setups cost?

Updating my summary for 2.49/2.48 blender results:
With blender 2.49 or 2.48 & dualcore:
120s blender 2.49 G5 2.3Ghz Dualcore
121s blender 2.49 G5 2Ghz Dualcore (erroneously reported singlecore?)
127s blender 2.49 G5 3Ghz Dualcore (erroneously reported singlecore?)
206s blender 2.48? x1000 1800Mhz Dualcore

Then with blender 2.49 or 2.48 & singlecore:
223s blender 2.49 G5 2.3Ghz single core
234s blender 2.49 G5 2.1Ghz single core
235s blender 2.49 G5 3Ghz SingleCore
325s blender 2.49 PowerBook 1667Mhz
331s blender 2.49 PowerBook 1667Mhz
414s blender 2.49 x1000 1800Mhz Single core (AOS4)
420s blender 2.48? x1000 1800Mhz Single core
425s blender 2.48a PowerBook 1500Mhz
538s blender 2.49 MCP8610 1066Mhz
540s blender 2.48 MacMini 1420Mhz
591s blender 2.48 A1XE 1000Mhz
629s blender 2.49 SAM460 1.15Ghz
710s blender 2.49 SAM460ex 1Ghz
1180s blender 2.48 SAM440 800Mhz (AOS4)

SAM460 added, thanks to m3x.

@WolfToTheMoon

"up to 2GHz" was the exact wording, at over $1000 to $2000 each, there was no way it would be selected. Every word counts, but ppl don't read.

@sundown

Actually Ken, despite the initial annoucement by PA Semi no 2.0 GHz version were ever produced.

The CPUs are just expensive, there are no cheap versions.

@vox

Assuming someone can build a suitable kernel for the Sam I would think so.

Acube soft3D?

It would be best if Acube / A-Eon boards could have been officially supported by developed PPC distro, but that would require some loaner systems and willing persons from Linux community?

Is it supported out of box or you followed Trevors instructions and kernel?

Now we just need to rip off that CUSA Vision CD and get "ultra modern blah blah operating system of NG Amigas"

@vox

it's a kernel thing.
Debian based distros based on Wheezy onwards need a kernel beyond the 2.6.32.x that is currently available for the Sam440ep models. the Sam460ex has a 2.6.38.2 plus one Amigan with the know how has compiled a 3.3.4 version .

Now there are 2.62 results for X1000, but results for other Macs, SAM need too, to compare

@betatesters / TrevorD

Any idea of when we see the performance results of e5500 cores in blender & Linux?

I just did HardInfo benchmarks in debian squeeze (PowerPC 750 emulated on Core i5-2500K 3.3 GHz; QEMU 2.1); lower is better except CPU CryptoHash:

CPU Blowfish- 73.35
CPU CryptoHash - 12.58
CPU Fibonacci - 31.52
CPU N-Queens - 76.83
FPU FFT - 189.67
FPU Raytracing - 449.50

Conclusion: performance of QEMU PowerPC emulation on my PC is comparable to 440EP 800 MHz in integer applications, but much slower in FPU demanding tasks.

Newer Debian release (Wheezy) gives somewhat better results (again PowerPC 750 emulated on Core i5-2500K 3.3 GHz; QEMU 2.1); lower is better except CPU CryptoHash:

CPU Blowfish- 62.06
CPU CryptoHash - 15.01
CPU Fibonacci - 26.47
CPU N-Queens - 63.34
FPU FFT - 134.05
FPU Raytracing - 371.11

For comparison (see post 98):

Sam460ex 1150 MHz
(Debian Squeeze)

CPU Blowfish- 58.944
CPU CryptoHash -19.339
CPU Fibonacci -16.085
CPU N-Queens -42.252
FPU FFT - 60.214
FPU Raytracing -50.750

@Spectre660

https://linux.pindanet.be/faq/tips13/benchmark/hardinfo_report.html
http://www.angelfire.com/wa/brasbeto/compinfo.html
http://www.christopherstark.de/extern/hardinfo_report.html

Only looked via Google.

If you really want to benchmark some hardware, I recommend rather "application benchmarks":

lame:
http://www.maninblack.org/demos/WhereDoAllTheJunkiesComeFrom.mp3
(first convert to wav, then benchmark conversion to MP3).
http://sintonen.fi/temp/AKsack.wav

MPlayer:
http://downloads.dvdloc8.com/trailers/divxdigest/prometheus-trailer.zip
mplayer -benchmark -nosound -ao null -vo null -lavdopts skiploopfilter=none

dnetc (dnetc -benchmark)
http://www.distributed.net/Download_clients

And of course games:
The Doom Benchmark (-timedemo demo3) and Quake1/2/3

Thanks.

Lame AKsack.wav and Mplayer prometheus-trailer benchmarks tested.
