They can. Even as improved version. It's (e.g.) called FPGA Arcade Replay. IMHO the smarter approach over an original A1200 (albeit I fully understand the appeal of the original hardware and am happy a few yet unused Amigas will find their way to a worthy and caring home)._________________ My programs: via.bckrs.de MorphOS user since V0.4 (2001) |

Sigh... go play with your clapped out PC and it modern crap and stop hanging about forums for retro computers if you think that they are as bad as you claim them to be... |
Hm, sorry to disappoint you, but I do NOT own a PC. Not anymore since Windows 7 refused to boot one day, some 3/4 years ago. A system I only used for internet banking.
You should not put words in my mouth by saying that I think the classics are bad. In their heydays they were STATE of the ART. But not so anymore today, as technology has moved onwards and still does so at an incredible pace, hence my remark that reproducing them would not make much sense. If there would still be considerable demand for Magic Packs, which in essence is an A1200, then they would fetch far more then the 200Euro's or so they become available for. What's more, I would have been able to sell off my A1200 long time ago. Yes! You won't believe: I actually DO own a REAL Amiga!!!!! Since 1994. And it is fully functional. But, boy, what have I invested in that thing to make/keep it usefull: towered, accelerated, SCSI-ed, CD-ROMed, Zorro-IVed, Networked, expanded, GFXed, you-name-it-and-it's-there-ed, and it still has even a Classic UserInterface Device hanging from it: a Philips 19" CRT which is obviously suffering from Alzheimer's Disease as the picture looks a bit shaky now that I've become used to a 1920 X 1200 LCD-thing. Yep, the whole A1200-thing's for sale. Anyone?
But I can fully feel empathy for your love for classics: I do own a car of Swedish produce, which is renown for its easy achieving of high mileages, extremely high mileages even. Wouldn't have anything else: cast-iron lengthwise engine, 4-speed G/B with overdrive and last but not least a rigid rear axle comprising the drive. An indestructable concept I came to love and would buy anew any day provided Volvo started making 940's again, which won't happen.

It was rather well said even if I do say so myself...
You know it's amazing on places like this that whenever you actually speak the truth about the Amiga that so many people get their knickers in a twist and take the truth being spoken as "personal attacks" or "insults" or claim they are being harassed by fictional beings or even a tin of pale pink meat...
In all my years of knowing people in real life who used the Amiga I never once came across even one single solitary user who was as touchy or such a delicate wee soul that you tend to find with some people on these forums...
It really is a physiologists or psychiatrists dream these forums (and I don't just mean this site). Personally I find it strangely bizarre and more often than not incredibly funny how some people can get so upset over my opinions. After all that is all they are "my opinions" and they have no affect on anyone's enjoyment of whatever their choice of Amiga system is...
Always said & thought the internet was a strange place and with just over two years of experience of it, even I'm amazed to find out it's even stranger than I had thought possible... never realised though that it's "strangeness" would become so fascinating and indeed entertaining and use up so much of my time as it never fails to amaze me just what someone will find to get all worked up about next and all over of all things a computer...
Thank gawd all this isn't about something actually serious or even important in life, otherwise I reckon I'd have been bumped off by now by a queue of hitmen lining up at my front door... _________________

This topic is about A1200 Partypack so I’m whit Franko on this one, if the topic was about something else probably not.

With nothing posted in this thread for 3 months and yet plenty of information on the topic, just thought I'd link to the amiga.org thread for those following this:
Petro: 500 units new Amiga 1200 Magic Pack
Over 40,000 page views and a quick sell out of product.
I suppose one could still half-heartedly claim "classic is dead", but then one wouldn't be using demand and sales figures as a basis for their claim, now would they? heh.
/me still in recovery digesting the latest sales prices for CSPPCs...

| I find it a little amusing when people who get on the NG boat start paying out on the good ol' classics, so let me put this straight for you........
*ALL* Amiga OS machines, ng or otherwise use obsolete technology. Even the X1000 is laughable compared to modern gear. DDR2, USB2, very slow processor (in modern terms), etc., etc. Doesnt mean a person cant enjoy what they use, but "my computer is obsolete, but not as obsolete as yours" is funny in a cringeworthy sort of way:)
Its hilarious when people get on their high horses and write off the classics when the NG options are much further from the mark than classics were in their heyday. Graphics cards and soundcards, etc. are the exception as for thier times these things where much on par. Difference being that back in the classics heyday they actually had driver support :) (seriously, its crazy the amount of time people are having to wait to get their stupidly expensive hardware to work properly cos of lack of driver support,... pretty much anomylous in the history of computing).

"dead" much depends of definition of "dead". not being built anymore seems quite on pair with the a1, mac or pegasos series (one being free to call them "amiga" or not). there is no company one could rely behind any of that, so only philosophy remains. 68k (what you prefer to call "classic", suggesting there is any "contemporary") is being carried ahead by the number of emulators (winuae ahead of all) for the time being or whatever. then there are the fpga projects and last but not least, the remaining genuine units in service as mine. so its really hard to claim all those alternatives as "dead". much harder as os4 bound to much more exclusive and much faster dying hardware. |

Hmm, 10 years and not yet an easy decent network solution to connect our classics with the ng's.
|
At least for the A1200 they are the easiest. Throw a pcmcia network card in and you're ready to go. I don't have mine any more but I used to have it on network with a bunch of Win 98 machines back in the day with file sharing even.
Don't know that state of NG file sharing/samba type software though so maybe that is what you are meaning. _________________ A3000D (16mhz, 2MB Chip, 4MB Fast, SCSI (300+MB), SuperGen Genlock, Kick 3.1) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Back in my day, we didn't have water. Samba works just as well today as it did 15 years ago. At least on classic.

| hmm , ITIX , are you sure about that? , one of my A1200's won't work with OS4 (i just get flashing screens loop on boot) but no problems what so ever with 3.9 on any of my machines... Revision of these machines?
never heard nor encountered this before but it might explain the issue with os4.0.
cheers
