Hi everybody, I've had the pleasure to try out an original, addictive new game by saimo (Simone Bevilacqua) who we all know has brought us glUAE, BOH, KOG, MEMO (for our classics) & now his latest creation is Huenison website linky

Problem is the game is only for PC right now as his old A1-XE has called it quits after numerous attempts to have it patched up. I say we band together and help him purchase a new Sam460/A1-500 or X1000 as all his work is done on his Amiga! If we got together to buy a Sam460 for DJnick to give us some wallpapers surely we can help out Simone a little bit too

We all know that times have been rough lately so Anyone that wants to help out with the cause can donate at glUAE's homepage (donate button at bottom left of screen)(donate linky).

@klx300r

You've always been very supportive, so it was a pleasure for me to let you try the game

@all

klx300r here is being too supportive: while I appreciate the initiative, in no way I'm asking for donations to buy a new machine or to release this game!

The game has been developed mostly on my A1 XE and is in its final stages. There is no release date set and I won't release the game until I'm 100% satisfied with it. There are still a few things I want to add and more might come. Who knows. I'm not in a hurry. I want it to be as perfect as I can.
At the moment I can't produce an AmigaOS build because (I think) the CPU has died (again). A couple of weeks ago I have contacted both AmigaKit and ACube for information regarding the purchase of a new computer. They answered very quickly, but then somehow disappeared, so I'm waiting.

EDIT 1: grammar mistakes.

EDIT 2: I was so surprised and worried by this, that I forgot to mention that klx300r didn't just talk: at the same time, he also sent me a very generous donation! And he was also followed by another kind soul.

@Toaks

This is quite hard to explain in few words, and I don't have time now. Anyway, here's a concise explanation which, I hope, won't derail the thread.

I loved to hit the HW on Classic Amigas and I liked how AmigaOS allowed me to fully control it (both the HW and the OS itself, I mean). That won't change.
But I've never been a technology fan: computers are to me just tools that allow me to express my ideas, and Amiga, as a whole, allowed me to do that comfortably with pleasure.
Times have changed, and the HW side had to be left behind. From a programming POV, I don't care about the OS: I just don't like interacting with OSes in general. So, I have and never had any special passion for AmigaOS from a programming POV. From a user POV, as said, AmigaOS gave me freedom and ease, so I stuck to it. It still is my favourite platform - that's why I develop on it - but if I keep on using it depends on what the future will bring.

@wawa

Thanks.

@all

Since I kind of feel I haven't been clear enough, let me state clearly that (sorry for the redundancy, but I want this to be really clear):
* I'm making no promises;
* I'm not committing to anything;
* the game will be released only if/when I feel like and only for the platform(s) I will freely choose;
* please don't think that donating for Huenison will make it happen quicker and/or for the platform of your choice;
* if anybody wants to make a donation for my other stuff, he/she is of course free to do so, but, again, think twice if what you are interested in is Huenison!

@amiga ppl

Vital Light was indeed underated game, had good looks for its time, and a great interactivity for a puzzler, never allowed you to fall asleep though like some other puzzlers.

@saimo

Another question: What can the rest of us do to keep you interested?

Money is after all just one of many incentives and it doesn't seem like it's your incentive of choice

If you like low-level there's always cool stuff that can be done in UBoot

I'm sure people wouldn't mind if they could have an A1200-style boot which worked on 90+ percent of graphics cards out there with a fallback to text mode if not possible.

Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). Sometimes I don't even know what people mean.

forgot to mention that Simone has also brought us MEMO for our classics !

'MEMO is a card memory game with some nice features, among which a simultaneous 2-player mode which adds the fun of battling a friend in real time.
You can find all the details on its website at MEMO webpage
The game is available for free download and glUAE users can get it downloaded, configured and installed for transparent emulation by the specific helper available on the HELPERS page of the glUAE website

Fully agreed, although I wouldn't call it puzzler

Nothing, I'm afraid (see below).

I'm very short on energies, so this answer won't be as good as I'd like to. Anyways, I'll try.

You hit the nail on the head: it's all about motivation.
I'm self-motivated: I'm simply urged to create the things (big or little, good or bad, stupid or clever, whatever, I'm not giving any evaluation) that pop up in my mind. That's all. First and foremost, it's the process of giving them shape and making them become real that I enjoy. Then, of course, I enjoy the final product - but that's not what drives me. Sometimes, I enjoy sharing my creations with others - but, again, that's not what drives me.
I've become a computer programmer because at age 6 a C64 inflamed my fantasy: somehow, I perceived that I could do those marvellous things through that machine. On the other hand, that's exactly the same reason why, despite a computer science degree (obtained not because I was studying, but mostly thanks to the years of fiddling with the C64 and the Amiga), I've always searched for a job that had nothing to do with programming or even computer systems related activities - I've even left my country to find such a job. Maybe I'd better say it explicitly: if it's about developing stuff that doesn't come from inside of me and/or with tools/languages/methods/etc. that are not of my choice, then I simply go nuts... I just hate learning about HW/SW architectures, APIs and whatnot... not to mention understanding other people's code. All of that is a mental activity that just kills my brain. Once, after moving country and without alternatives, I quitted a job after 5 days because of that.

Now that I've given you my perspective, I can answer your suggestion: what you say makes absolutely sense, but, unfortunately, I'm not the right person. Sorry, it's a matter of visceral feelings.
If life allows me to and AmigaOS remains my comfortable work place, then chances are that I'll release something else into Amigaland. Maybe it will be another game - in the last years, I've been mostly into games, althogh in the past I did make "boring" stuff like, f.ex., ESA, the already mentioned glUAE or crazy projects like MOM.
For completeness sake, though, I have to say that once I'm done with Huenison, I plan to make another C64 game (making QUOD INIT EXIT was just too fun and I can't wait to get more of all that!)

@Rob

I'm impressed that you remember about uniVERUS
The code was mostly done (say, 90%), but for that I needed full support from a good pixeller. Also, I needed a level designer. But I couldn't find anybody with the right skills and level of motivation. Eventually, the project was canned.
(But, just to give a better idea of what a maniac I am, just a few months ago I've fixed a couple of bugs! I work, rework and maintain my projects - even the unreleased ones - continuously...)

I think that touching, using, tinkering on a classic Amiga feels different to nextgen boxes.. i have played with newer HW/SW but it just don't feel right to me.

@all

I feel like a better clarification is needed.

While I'm totally overwhelmed by klx300r's unbelievable support and generosity, I do not want money for my A1 and/or Huenison. If you feel like donating for one of my past projects, feel free. But please do not send any money for the machine or the game.
