What great news! The timeless Team17 Amiga classic 'Superfrog', one of the best platform games ever is being given the HD treatment for its 20th anniversary!

Well that is great news indeed.

I just don't quite comprehend the logic behind creating that terrible picture seen on the IGN page.

Quote:
No firm release date has been set for the platformer. The below evolution graphic should help to tide us over though, as well as give us an idea of what to expect.

What are we supposed to expect based on an "evolution graphic" in which the 1993 Superfrog sprite "evolves" into 1993 Superfrog drawing (over an incorrect timeline ) via two half-arsed intermediate images? What are people unfamiliar (or just vaguely familiar) with Superfrog going to expect?

I know this is going off on a tangent - right at the beginning of a thread, even - and I really don't wish to hijack the thread but ... does anyone else feel that the image is somewhat sloppy work or is it just me?

The actual news item itself is indeed great, cool, supergreen, two flippers up and so forth.

@Nataline

Yeah, the image isn't very encouraging...

@Nataline

To paraphrase Po, the Kung-Fu Panda: It's not sloppy work, it's THE sloppy work.

Hope they manage to convert it without turning Superfrogs fluid motions into Batman the movie's god-awful jerkiness. If you catch my drift.

Whew!
Superfrog was (is) one of my all time favourites... I hope they do a better job than Alien Breed HD. In that case it's a Day One for me, otherwise I guess I can still play it over WinUae...

Oh good, it wasn't just my medication acting up, then. Whew. Right, onto topic..

I do wish they take their time polishing up the product. olegil mentioned fluid motion, and I think getting that one just right is essential in replicating the Superfrog experience of the olden days.

Giving a spit-shine to the graphics and possibly the audio is fine but there's always the danger of someone introducing New Ideas to "fix" non-broken things.

Well if we want to attract new customers this game really needs Something New in it.

Oh, I agree. Maybe we should turn it into a full 3D platformer.

Yeah, absolutely. With first person perspective.

Right. And we could give him a gun! To shoot with!

Well he already has Spud..

Oh yeah.. Well we make it a Spud Gun then.

Cool. Then you could shoot.. umm.. hmm.. zombies! Zombies seem popular nowadays.

Yeah! And then you could, like.. do 3D-platforming first-person zombie-shootening stuff with..

[In chorus:]
..other frogs in Online Multiplayer Mode!
..other frogs in Online Multiplayer Mode!

Oh this is going to be awesome..

I can smell the money already..

All right, yes, I admit that's not the same as HD-upgrading, but there are a thousand and one ways to botch a golden oldie resurrection project. Well, the Team Sockenteen above are talking about reincarnation, really..

Ugh, I don't even know where I'm going with this anymore..
Submitting the post anyway, coherence be damned!
