Considering that neither the SAM:s nor Tabor are powerhouses I doubt people will upgrade to get slightly faster, but still slow, hardware. More likely the buyers will be people who 1, buys everything anyway, 2, people who thought the SAM 460 was just a little too expensive and 3, people whos hardware is broken or has become flaky. Unless of course the board is dirt cheap (like 100€ cheap).

You forgot from your list: 4 people having only CS PPC and still struggling bravely with it's 128MB! Tabor will be a HUGE improvement in all respect to them (as would be almost anything!). And what is the best, you can probably fund it just by selling your CS PPC.

Maybe MorphOS?

No. The board is knwn to the MorphOS team since a while and has not been considered as a viable MorphOS target yet. The incompatible FPU is a major stopper and there's no urgend need for this board for MorphOS and development resources are better spend elsewhere. There's plenty other hardware supported already (many G4/G5 Macs, Pegasos1+2, Efika5200B, Sam460, X5000).

I doubt it.

I bet most of them want to keep using their classic machines first and foremost.

And from what I can see from this thread, a lot of people are category 1; people who will upgrade regardless. That is fine and all since new hardware is fun, but I doubt they represent the vast majority.

@Yasu

that there is a market for 500 X5000 is also surprising to me. And regarding Tabor we will see...

the second core is unused for unforeseeable time. And roadmap after 4.2 ready in just 4 more weeks

FPU emulation is slow and not tested. They have plans for a better one later.

@OlafS25

seems again that even within the os4 team contradicting informations are being distributed. reminds a bit the situation with netbook. at least today there is apparently a decent person to clarify the stuff a bit, as he did with the sdk headers affair.

@wawa

I trust Cyborg there more than the others...

If true expecially the FPU part is embarrassing... they claimed no problem, compatible and fast

Thanks.
Well intersting in that regard what HyperinMP wrote above. Crystalball in Leuwen?

@Spectre660

how can he say that if it not exists and is only idea or planning? Software development is complex, you never know what can happen or if everything works like you hope.

This is how things are expressed in the English language.
It is the expression of a plan. Plans do not not always work though.

someone hiding the truth behind the NDA or similar

This is a serious matter and the community must be aware of the state of development at any time.

@Spectre660

I do not need to explain why they (Hyperion) should be careful with promises or "plans". Assuming people buy Tabor and there is only the slow FPU emulation and the fast one needs a long time or is not possible at all whyever (not uncommon in complex software) or is not compatible enough customers will be very disappointed and another round of Hyperion bashing. I like Cyborgs style, honest explanations. The others should take over that style too. Just my 2 cents.

@OlafS25

Only Beta-Testers will be able to buy the Tabor until AmigaOS 4.x is working to an acceptable standard. Just like the X5000 not being available until that standard is reached.

Just wanted to give you guys my opinion. BTW I have been a loyal Amiga follower for many many years buying my first machine way way back in the 80's programmed in C, Assembler and for a time I pushed my Miggy to the extreme with the likes of Lightwave & Imagine etc. I have followed the community here for many years and also at amiga.org as well as aros-exec. I don't have an Amiga right now, not including UAE, and that's simply because because the hardware is so expensive.

Lots of people complain about the cost of Amiga hardware and I would love to be able to afford a brand new "NG" motherboard (I say NG but isn't the reality that PPC hardware for Amiga is "current generation") and the reality is it is out of most peoples reach. This hardware is perfect for me and I have no doubt many others. It gives me a base platform to work from at a respectable cost and gives me an entry point onto a system that I really want to use. Am I concerned about MIPS, MOPS and GHz - no as long as the system can run the software better than an upgraded A4000 which it could.

I don't expect lots of bang for very little bucks. An entry level machine just to bring me back into the fold and I have no doubt it will bring other users back to Amiga too. Would that not make business sense. Would that not bring other ex Amigans back to the scene. It's hypothetical right now - but this board would get my money from my pocket and back into supporting Trevor and future Amiga projects.

I run my own business - if I had an entry level machine to evaluate then Amiga could reach and support my business also and what I mean by that is potential sales increase from a simple underpowered board to sales of 5 or 6 X5000's.
