@The_Editor

What, the basic, minimum, bare-bones install takes up more than eight megs of disk space, all of a sudden?

And, ehm, your daughter, she running a C= 64, no? She running winbloats, yes? You running Amiga OS? Yet you have no second thoughts about denying her that extra, well-needed disk space..tsk, tsk... "Daddy can install his OS ten thousand times on his HD, you can barely install yours once!"

So, what we're all getting excited about . . .

is our suit-clad PPC Linux Kents entering the closest phone box . . . .
then openning the jacket & white shirt togather (with a certain CD) and face stollically directed upwards . . .
. . . to emerge SHOUTING, "This is a job for Superm . . (er) AmigaOS4.0"!

Nooooo don't want to know release dates, I think we ALL understand that It's just sometimes we like to be nosey and know what's happening, that's all. I think I can speak to 99.99% of us on AW.NET when I say we are more greatful for the work you have/are/will be putting in to this project than you guys will ever know. But that's the problem, we crave info LOL

Keep up the great work, and ignore any parts of my posts that sound negative, that's NOT aimed at you guys, just frustration in general.

Well, no one bothered asking me, so I guess I'm the missing 0.01% then.

And I agree completely.

So that should make you free to speak for 100% of us now.

I think they might secretly enjoy it, you know. Considering how relatively late in the "OS4" project Hyperion stepped in, they must've known what type of frustration was out there already, even before they started. I think that's what attracted them to it, really.

Great that's really freaky, the thought of Hyperion's main fetish being to take on OS4- bet their significant others are happy LOL

Eeeeeewwwwwww just had a horrible thought of what they could be doing with those USB connectors on the A1 ........................... hehehe

@Rogue

I hope tuesday was for rea...But if doesn't... NO prob! I'm SURE that at this point was only a few days to expect for OS4 pre-release and I'm so HAPPY :) ...firstly take care of your personal problems(as you say) then other things.

Only one thing...
From the pre-release installation guide I've not understand if I can install OS4 on a patition on my old partitioned amigaos HD or If I must take a new one to prepare with mediatoolbox for install the AmigaOS4 bootloader...Or maybe I can modify my old one?
Thank you e GOOD WORK!

Tuxedo.

Thx a lot. I will give KDH-shop a call to order my UBOOT ROM upgrade and a second HD disk and all my Amiga software from my A3000T will be reinstalled on my A1XE

@Tuxedo

You can do both: install on an existing partition or use a brand new HD.
BUT: the first option is only viable if you've enough room in the RDB blocks range for the bootloader. That's about 50K.

To everyone interested: the final installation will be easier, allowing you to install bootloader and create partitions with a single menu selection. An appropiate setup will be available for mixed Amiga/Linux setups, too.

With apologies to all for veering wildly off-topic, can I ask what that text in your sig is? The language appears very celtic in characteristic word-forms and obvious mutations, but the vocabulary is clearly not indo-european. It's quite reminiscent of Punic, but doesn't have enough semitic sounds in it. I'm stumped! What the hell is it?

To drag things vaguely-on topic but on a similar theme, does OS4 really come with Esperanto support? Damn that's cool. Slightly pointless, perhaps, but very cool nevertheless. ;-)

Celtic isn't so far off. It's actually Sindarin (or Tolkien Elfish) which is, IIRC, modelled after Gaelic. If you watch "The Fellowship" and turn up the volume during the opening narration, you'll hear it whispered inbetween the louder, english passages. It says

The world is changed / I feel it in the water
I feel it in the earth / and I smell it it the air.

(I like to put that into the context of AmigaOS 4 - I still hope it *will* change the world Although I doubt you could smell it...)

Funnily enough these lines are spoken by Galadriel in the movie while in the book they come from Fangorn... But well...

I do think that all these langauges listed on the screenshots are genunine, although I can't really say if there is Esperanto support or not - I certainly only installed english language files on my system. But there is a rather large team of translators working on it.

Thank YOU!

I've another thing to know now(excusme for my disinformation)...
How I can know if I have 50k of space available?
I can increase that space dleting and modifing the first partition?
About how many kb will be needed to install AOS4pre?

Tuxedo.

@Tuxedo

If you had Mediatoolbox there's a fancy gadget that tells you this.
But since you've not yet installed OS4, it's unlikely you can get hold of it.

You can try using HDToolbox. You need to find your disk geometry as stored in the RDB (RDSK sector). If the data there is correct (sometimes it's not), the value you're looking for is (rdb_RDBBlockHi - rdb_HighRDSKBlock)*rdb_BlockBytes.

You can increase that space by moving the first cylinder assigned to the partitionable disk area, but you can't do that without losing the first partition, if the latter starts at the first possible cylinder.
Anyway, to do this kind of stunt you need to use MTB in expert mode.

Don't know exactly about the AOS4pre size. My install is around 100Meg but I've added several backdrops and other kind of stuff. It's probably something around 60 Meg.
