No surprise that Sean (above) is not alone in yet another C64 revival effort:

Yay?

@terminills

So the court has started to address motions from March 2021.

It may take a while to get caught up. I hope this is a sign that they have the time and wherewithal to do so before Senior Judge Martinez retires.

Added: Order complied. Document referred to is listed for purchase.

It be good if this sorted, I wonder if mockups in stranger things, of legal mess around Amiga/AmigaOS and commodore in geranial. it good if people scared of using the real thing.

By time this is sorted, Enhancer / AmigaKit OS will be thing, legal issues around AmigaOS will be mostly irrelevant.

Maybe it will be the most influential thing he ever does? As he frees up Amiga from its legal mess to take its place at the head of the quantum computer revolution!

Fascinating. 5 pages at only a cost of a dollar and forty-one cents and yet no one has bothered to download the docket item in question.

In the meantime everyone can read:
the order denying motion to seal

Does it even matter anymore? What are we fighting over? The right to open source AmigaOS? What difference would that actually make? I fail to see what AmigaOS3.2 has brought to the table in terms of new apps and functionality. Open Source would provide more of the same with less direction and guidance presumably and more different distro flavours? I'd probably still use OS3.9 even after all of that!

THEA500 Mini, Vampires etc have all been possible without the official IP so I repeat, "What difference would a win either way make?"

?????????????????

@Thread

Replying to myself as I don't want to leave this on a downer until the judge reports a bowel movement or something!

I guess a court case verdict would bring confidence and stability to the market. Stephen Jones might be able to license some trademarks and Amiga Addict and RetroPassion could get official deals to avoid skirmishes with AmigaKit. I guess everyone would know where they stand which would be nice.

@BigD

I think your correct will result in different distribution of AmigaOS, like you have now with AROS, this will complicate things, as different components written by different people result in incompatibility’s. like for example SFS.

Its also a matter of dependencies, as some one who writes software, I want things to be as simple as possible, copy file to system and run, no need to mess around with package managers.

I know what you mean, the more these company fight over the scraps the more the community will just find ways around it, Vampire / Apollo team proved this, they where going to try and work with updating Workbench but due to licensing issues moved to Aros.

Plus Im not sure of the big plan from either Cloanto / Hyperion is if they win the rights to the OS is?

Community projects and third party plans are much better / interesting that either these companies are offering, A500 mini, Pistorm, Amikit XE, Pimiga, Checkmate, etc, yes small improvement to the classic OS and Emulation is welcome but we need project that gives the Amiga world more exposer that will expand the Amiga user base.

I think A500 mini has helped, the facebook group recently passed 5,000 users, which is not bad, but also not amazing, I cant help but feel the product was too basic and too much in asking price to be really successful, I think if it goes half price it will be more of impulse buy / stocking filler price and i'm glad that most of the hacks / mods made for the system are pretty easy to install / setup for end users that we may attract more user into our world.

Somewhat hilarious that you would ask what difference open source OS would make then go on to mention products running on open source OSes coupled with licensed IP as examples of open source and IP being inconsequential.

Your ignorance appears to know no bounds. You showcase this time, time, and time again, but in true form are always too oblivious to see it.

$1.45? There are five exhibits in dkt. 101, costing $3.99 each. Sorry, I definitely won't waste that much money on this, even less since the content seems to be that unimportant those of who are knowing it already don't even give a hint if there is anything of interest in any (and which one) of the exhibits.

@Senex

When I 1st checked it at Pacer it showed the list of docs and $1.45. Perhaps the effects of inflation are coming far faster than we imagined. (evil grin)

But yeah, I only found one vague reference to the docs and not of the order that would get us all running to acquire them.

And to be perfectly blunt about this, for vast amount of time some people have invested in attempting to deliver news over the years, there has been very little return on investment, if you get my drift.

@fishy_fis

I'm just over the moon that in reality the open sourcing of AmigaOS will definitely lead to around 50 very happy developers. The question is beyond that will it really mean much different to the AmigaOS 3.2 'progress' being made right now?

Whats the latest on this case and when the next likely update will be?

Just surprised we haven't heard much in a while.

@amigang

no change since this update

Just an official announcement from the court that Judge Martinez achieved "senior status":
"He assumed senior status on September 5, 2022."

You can read about what this means here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Senior_status

Officially and unofficially I know of no action being taken on the case and no progress being made.
