It could just as well run TOS, WinCE or CP/M.....
If it gets some exclusive content and is easy to use, why the Dell not? _________________ - We don't need good ideas, we haven't run out on bad ones yet - blame Canada |

How many Linux "boxes" by big recognizable brands are there? A low powered Linux box with decent graphics at a low price would be the bomb for me. |

I guess that's where the BOX comes in. If it's a console won't it compete with the XBox? Perhaps using Linux will be innovative, after all, a game console these days is just a PC in a black box. |

If it had that latest PC Gauntlet Edition game I'd be interested but that's still owned by Warner Bros so probably no deal possible!! Atari's IP is a complex as Commodore's Last edited by BigD on 26-Sep-2017 at 05:19 PM.

According to CNET, they will run an Indigogo campaign for this thing... Seriously? I mean Atari is not exactly a broken startup... IOW they don't want to take any risks, not even with off the self hardware and software, but want to cash in on the retro crap like Nintendo (and more or less everyone else) does recently. But they hope the logo sells, apparently. Pathetic.

That's a little shortsighted.
With more than 5 million systems sold, even a small fraction appealing to the nostalgia market would be substantial. |

I'm just making an educated guess here, but it seems like AtariBOX is using a license from Atari SA. They don't look like the same company, but more like an offshoot. |

You think so?
From Wikipedia:
Quote:
On January 21, 2013, the four related companies Atari, Atari Interactive, Humongous, and California US Holdings filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.[46] All three Ataris emerged from bankruptcy one year later and the entering of the social casino gaming industry with Atari Casino.[47] Frederic Chesnais, who now heads all three companies, stated that their entire operations consist of a staff of 10 people.[48]

I am not surprised at all.
Atari should not be worth a lot more than Amiga these days. Didn't Amiga Inc try to launch a kickstarter campaign recently as well?Last edited by Leo on 28-Sep-2017 at 02:14 PM. Last edited by Leo on 28-Sep-2017 at 02:10 PM.

I keep seeing this same phrase all over the internet and it gets under my skin. Just to set the record straight, Atari (the current version) has been 'selling the logo' on retro consoles for 13 years.

The Flashback 2 could even be modded with a cartridge port to play the old carts.
