| After looking at Mac-Forums for the first time in a while it became clear that the website is on life support and could close down any day! An official notice of 31st December 2017 was given as the end but it's still limping on! Is it a sign that forums have been superseded by Facebook and that their days are numbered?

| I have a fb account for administering the work page, but no friends/pic/info etc. I can't stand social media! _________________ Amiga A1200, 3.1 ROMs, Blizzard 1230 MKIV 64MB & FPU, 4GB DoM SSD, Workbench 3.1 |

| The forums are dying because of a lack of interest in the Amiga. People have been hanging around the forums for years waiting for hardware and 15 years of waiting for OS4 improvements. It's easy to get distracted or just to move on in that amount of time.
So FaceBook or not, it doesn't really matter. Until there's something of interest or some forward progress there won't be much activity on either. Just because someone joins an Amiga FB group doesn't mean they're even looking at the content, let alone contributing or posting.
The Vampire forums are quite active though.

My point was that the forums medium is dying generally and then I used a Mac forum as an example. Keep your pessimistic bias against the progress of A-EON, AmigaKit, Hyperion etc off this thread. The X5000 is available now, the A.L.I.C.E. laptop can be imported from America taking the pain out of setting up emulation on a PC laptop and Tabor is coming. That is all good and a far cry from the Troika, ACK Software Controls or even Eyetech days. There is no reason to bring the Amiga platform down all the time on every thread! _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." Come on guy, give it a rest please. You've made it abundantly lear for at least a year now that all you want to do is bitch and moan. EVERY SINGLE post you've made for as long as I can recall is just whinge, whinge, whinge, moan, moan, moan. Come on guy, you're not a child.
I dont particularly want to argue, but you're so very tiring lately. Just not interested in watching people bitch and moan as an agenda, which no matter how aggressively you respond (a forte of youre since this behaviour started) you're just not gonna be easy to take seriously. Your rants ave no effect when theyre so transparent and typical. In fact pretty much every rant you make lately just makes you a laughing stock (one you've encouraged).
Bit of a shame that someone in this community who is actually capable of thinking for themselves chooses not to think at all and instead just gives cliches as responses.
p.s. did you notice how BigD was actually talking about a mac forums rather than this one? Perhaps read the things you auto respond to? Might make you a smidgeon less hilarious. You'll have a nice collection then, an X5000, A.L.I.C.E. and soon a Tabor

Sorry, but an opinion was asked, so I offered mine. And I WILL keep my pessimism as long as Hyperion continues in its failure to deliver on promises made years ago and as A-Eon continues to talk or just keep silent about the Tabor. Hyperion was promising SMP 8 years ago. It now over 2 years since A-Eon promised the Tabor.
I'm not bringing down the platform in any way thank you. Hyperion and A-Eon have been doing a wonderful job of that all by themselves. |

I could say the same about you....nothing but constant posts about how great a job Hyperion and A-Eon are doing. They must have offered you a sizable discount on a new system in exchange for your constant cheerleading. |

Perhaps you are trying to demonstrate how communicating on the internet whatever the medium; forum or social media, is pointless and just becomes drowned out by oafish bores with an axe to grind. | Social Media makes great demands on peoples time. More casual Amiga users are likely to get their fix when checking in with FB. I don't buy the people are losing interest in the Amiga argument, interest seems higher in recent years than it was for many, just not on the traditional forums. I'm not a fan of facebook but that's where the content is these days unfortunately. |

| I agree with A1200. I only joined Facebook because my family uses it, but I haven't logged on there in months. If I want to spend time in a false reality, I would rather just play a video game. _________________ http://www.hostcove.com http://www.youtube.com/hostcove Sam460 : X1000 : X5000 |

| I have facebook account since Im an admin on a couple of workrelated facebook pages.
Other than that Im increasingly avoiding it.
And if it hadnt been for work, I would have deleted it by now.
Topic related; I reject all requests Ive had from Amiga related FB pages. I will never join any groups on FB, full stop. Last edited by Overflow on 08-Feb-2018 at 10:28 AM.

The Commodore Amiga Facebook group page has more members that any other Amiga forum and is very active. I see news and rumors on Facebook before it even is discussed on any forum (except maybe in eab.abime.net) Last edited by Fransexy on 08-Feb-2018 at 12:55 PM. Mac-Forum's days may be numbered, but I don't think it's because of Facebook. There are a lot of places to get good help with Macs. As far as I can tell Fedora Forum is going very strong and I'm not sure Fedora users are any less likely to use Facebook than Mac users.
I had to use Facebook for work for a while but I managed to get someone else to take it on. I tired of all the stupidity, at how people shared news stories aiming for a sharp sting, including a lot of people who know better. Didn't matter if I agreed or disagreed with the story's point; everyone calling everyone else stupid is a bad, bad trend.
That said, I think people should quit Twitter even more, and so, apparently, does one of its founders. _________________ I've decided to follow an awful lot of people I respect and leave AmigaWorld. If for some reason you want to talk to me, it shouldn't take much effort to find me. |

If you'd read the link to Mac-Forums you'd have seen the moderators pointing to Facebook as the obvious extension of their forum once it's dead! That is an acceptance that Facebook is the future as far as they are concerned. Fransexy obviously feels the same way about AmigaWorld Last edited by BigD on 08-Feb-2018 at 10:58 PM.
