it is under powered and not cheap, no game companies express interest, so in the end it will be just an hobby console with opn source ports and emulation software. Having said that it also mean that the brand is still strong, I wonder how much will be raised for a new Amiga. |

Touch of irony that someone on an amiga forum site would have that complaint, especially seeing as the Atari is more powerful and cheaper than OS4 machines
That's the sort of price/performance ratio OS4 users could only ever dream of
AND it instantly has a bigger user base than what OS4 has managed to accumulate in over a decade.
Not too shabby really. |

Just wanted to make a thread of this one, and now this post was already There. Was just thinking the same. If Amiga just came with a concept. Better said Cloanto or Hyperion, at least the guys with the licenses.
Would be nice to see a "console" type thing alike for Amiga with Amiga Forever or OS 3.9/4.1 and with the existing hardware released there can be developed something neat.
Does me think about this: https://www.armigaproject.com/ but then more with Amiga trademarks. |

| Oh it runs linux
wonder how long it will be before someone hacks the OS to run on anything X86 as im guessing its x86 based.

| The wood panelled one is a work of art - I love the styling personally. But... $339? It needs to do more than sit in the corner and look pretty for that kind of money.
The only other thing I don't like is that 41 years on, the joystick still doesn't cater for left-handers. I mean, come on! Would it really screw up the design to add a second button?

It is pretty easy to put a PC in a box with a Linux OS and put an Atari logo add a VCS emulator, you could do that with a PI and it will a lot cheaper.
You could do the same with any brand so what is the difficulty here? The only good thing is Jeff Tempest 4000.

I think this is cool, and I have no problem with the price. It seems cheap for a boutique computer that one can do actual work on. _________________ "Unix is supposed to fix that." -- Jay Miner |

| I remain amazed at how much demand there is left in the indie and retro gaming areas.
Especially after high-profile failures like OUYA and many, many half-baked and unpolished devices being delivered, I would have expected people to be put off by these type of projects by now but apparently not.
Thanks to diligent updates during its campaign, I thought projects like indieGO! outperformed expectations in terms of fundraising but perhaps I am wrong and it underperformed
That being said, I think it is worth remembering that ATARI is still one of the biggest gaming brands in the world to this very day so that clearly helps a lot.

You don't even have to hack it. From what I understand, the underlying Linux will be accessible out of the box. It's one of the advertised features.
The whole concept is confusing. It's a 2600 emulator in a retro-styled box, but they're also advertising streaming media and being able to run new games. It costs more than a base model XBox One yet has much lower specs and no dedicated eco-system or any optimized games (unless you count Pac-Man and Space Invaders).
It really looks like Ouya 2.0.
I think these guys do a good job explaining why this product doesn't make any sense: https://youtu.be/fQCInaieQVY Last edited by AdvancedFollower on 02-Jun-2018 at 10:10 AM.

ATARI has been making money for years and years in the Games arena. They are in a much better financial position than AMIGA has been since the ATARI/AMIGA era.
IF AMIGA had made games that were top tier, then mayby they would have capital too however, AMIGA has not done this, they have no money and they have a split IP that only god knows what can offer. The constant fighting an insecurity have only caused further damage to an already weak position and now, there is not much left. I hate it's ended up like this but I just don't know what AMIGA has left to offeer that anyone would have interest in. ATARI don't have an OS to keep going but if this pulls off, who knows!
