Clearly you have never met all of the automobile hobbyists who will drive their classic cars on bias ply tires and keep drum brakes in their cars so as not to "taint" their vehicles. Or will continue to run multiple carbs they keep having to adjust rather than throwing on an EFI system. Again, hobbyists can be funny with their twist on how to approach their hobby. |
OK, your logic, or the lack of it is bordering on the absurd. We're not talking about taking classic hardware and keeping it stock, whether it's a car or a computer.
We're talking about taking high-end, modern hardware, new and off-the-shelf, and crippling it with an ancient OS. No rational person does this, nor does any car enthusiast buy a new Ferrari and replace the motor with one salvaged from a 1969 VW bug.
By this new stated logic, you and your friends should just buy classic OS4 hardware to run your precious OS4 and nothing else....so which is it?
And it's all pointless anyway. OS4 was still-born when it was released and the Tabor, if it's actually ever released, will be the last system to run OS4. Hyperion can't even pay its bills or it programmers (just ask Thomas regarding his OS3.1.4 efforts) so expecting them to port OS4 to the Blackbird is sheer lunacy. Ben and company promised SMP and 64-bit addressing over 10 years ago and if you believe them, I have some beachfront property in AZ I'd like to sell you. |

fairlanefastback has a point about hobbyists spending money. It does not matter if it is usefull or not, they like spending money on their hobby. And Amiga is like a hobby isn't it, it does not matter if it costs, besides that Amiga hardware has a fixed value. |

Spending money is one thing. Yes, hobbyists of all types will spend stupendous amounts of money on what others would see as a complete waste: Be it a rare stamp, coin, baseball card, comic book, first edition book or manuscript, limited run of anything, action figure, signed item, early model of pretty much any device, vehicles, and yes even rare computers.
The fantasy part of it is the worrying bit. None of the other hobbyists believe that people will give up email and stamps will make a major comeback, that modern banking will give up electronic transactions and go back to pen and paper, that the video game industry will collectively shut down so that kids can go outside and play, that electric vehicles are a fad and people will end up converting their Teslas and Rivians to use internal combustion engines, and yes that some OS company will port their turn of the century OS to 2019 hardware.
If you met a fan of Palm OS and they told you they were really excited about the awesome 24-core ARM board from 96boards and how if only ACCESS Co would port it to this board, the world would make sense again. What would you think of this Palm OS hobbyist?Last edited by agami on 12-Jun-2019 at 04:50 AM. Last edited by agami on 12-Jun-2019 at 04:49 AM.

this is why we have to hope in a vm or paravirtualized system like is qemu that run on this new hardware. _________________ I love Amiga and new hope by AmigaNG A 500 + ; CDTV; CD32; PowerMac G5 Quad 8GB,SSD,SSHD,7800gtx,Radeon R5 230 2GB; MacBook Pro Retina I7 2.3ghz; #nomorea-eoninmyhome |

Don't forget the possibility of a ppc460, or something, on a CAPI device. This could effectivly set the POWER9 as a server/slave to a OS.
