I agree, speed is still slow on today personal computers. But it's fully functional and very compatible with real sam460ex boards. You need only to buy AmigaOS4 and nothing else!
But now all us have already a virtual AmigaNG and, with further QEMU development united with new gen cpus, it will be faster than a real sam460ex in next years, still under emulation.
The best solution today could be got a fully virtualization on powerpc hardware, like powermacs or new blackbird computers as example, to avoid emulation and got fully hardware speed. To get this we have only to enable KVM mode.. So if there're some developers interested, it could be a real thing in next few weeks/months, improving already present Sam460ex qemu virtual board, or building the new Pegasos 2 virtual board in development by Zoltan Balaton. Yes, it is slow! But better then no hardware at all (Tabor) or medium price tag (X5000).
Seeing the Youtube OS4.x installation movies, speed reminds me of my CyberstormPPC or BlizzardPPC installation (on the standard Amiga ide controler that was!).
I use AmigaForever WinUAE with is compareable as it uses qemu as well, there are some quirks but it is usable.

Maybe because G5 can give kind performance close to X5000, older mac system with only G4 will slower then what they are selling now, however it won't be bad to have option instead of waiting for tabour, that is taking forever.
the issue however is that as long as there are no native drivers for the hardware, you need to emulate hardware in software instead, and here is where you lose speed.
I have Virtual box on PC, i run x86 Linux on it but runs a lot slower then haveing linux installed normally. I have some experience with servers running HyperV virtual machines, the graphics feels unresponsive, even if the CPU speed and disk speed is not bad.

Pegasos is not an Amiga. It's a fake wannabe Amiga. _________________ Ryzen 9 7900X, DDR5-6000 64 GB RAM, GeForce RTX 4080 16 GB Amiga 1200 (Rev 1D1, KS 3.2, PiStorm32lite/RPi 4B 4GB/Emu68) Amiga 500 (Rev 6A, KS 3.2, PiStorm/RPi 3a/Emu68) |

| @Hammer How can that be? I thought every board that can run OS4 natively turns into an Amiga _________________ This is just like television, only you can see much further. |

People have reported that paula/denice/ciaa/ciab chips have magically append on the motherboard after installing AmigaOS.
Personally, I no problem calling hardware Amiga with higher model number, the confusion comes when someone try sell something as something different, at this point make more sense to call it something else like AmigaONE, or better AmigaNext or something else like PowerAmiga Last edited by NutsAboutAmiga on 26-Aug-2021 at 03:21 PM. I installed the latest version of QEMu on Linux. Which means, I had to download a 100MB something file, unpack it then compile it myself. Since you can't download the latest version on Linux on site.
On my i5 laptop it runs about the same speed as my 1.67Ghz PowerBook in use and booting off CD. It's faily fluent. The only issue is the screen is too big for my laptop and you can't set the display size. Well I spent an hour looking it up, readng forums, and Qemu still can't do it itself after ten years.
