I am going to open ordering for next batch in the next few days, please be aware there are only a guaranteed 500 cases left for now for sale and nearly 250 on waiting list. This may seem to be just a marketing trick, but if you have followed my progress you will understand why. I am absolutely shattered with building these cases and I cannot turn this into a day job until Amiga ownership is out of the courts and settled finally. Been burned twice by Amiga, not doing that again.

So if you still need to decide if for you please read this amazing review, also note the ACA500+ potential with a graphics card and A1200 accelerator even though we had to modify next batch of board to make latest ACA500+ versions work (Not the ACA's fault).

Thanks Epsilon

A little bit related...

about SFX PSUs for Checkmate ....

Is there anywhere a list of SFX PSUs that are found to be good for tiny-power-needs like my SAM440ep (or Tabor)?

eg. these are available for me locally:
Corsair SF450 (80 PLUS Gold/80 PLUS Platinum)
Corsair SF600 (80 PLUS Gold/80 PLUS Platinum)
SilverStone SX500-G, 80 PLUS Gold

@KimmoK

Any SFX will do, just depends on budget. However a Tabor will not get near to using 300w.

@clusteruk

A few of us brought up your comments from your post A34 video, which you echo here.

Thank you for putting it in a separate place where people might pay attention.

btw-MorphOS team interview still around January?

and Hyperion interview date still somewhat vague?

So the 1000+W power supply I had at AmiWest was a tad overkill then?

Seriously though, it is the graphics card that sucks the most power. So if you are planning to build your own A1222 then make sure you have enough power for the card. I have some Radeon RX card.

I was very happy to be able to look at your case in person. Nice build quality. My show neighbour was Doug from 10MARC. I know I'm seriously considering getting one myself now.

The only catch is that Paul wasn't able to find a 90 degree PCI express adapter to work for him on his Tabor MK1 board and he tried more than one of them. I know nothing about these adapters myself. I wonder if there is firmware/software involved in making these things work.

@wawa

He wants to sell complete systems in case
AROS systems shouldn't be an issue, but IP holders are twitchy on what they are threatened by
Vampire based systems, look what they have been doing to mitigate the same issue
Emulation systems, Who do you buy the classic OS from for the system

"He wants to sell complete systems in case"

Steve lost his Amiga related business with CBM bankrupt, then again with gateway bankrupt.
He has plans for the third attempt (where the checkmate case is just tiny part).

@ssolie

Thanks for nice comments.

To be honest, just get a shielded PCI-E ribbon cable, they cost about $10-15 and they work amazingly well, and as Linus proved can work up to a couple of metres in length so 4 inches is fine. I run a GTX 1080 with no issues using my VR. So a low performance Radeon will not have any issues.

I did originally plan on a board but had problems with the supplier.

Exactly. Gfx card manufacturers tend to specify the recommended power supply wattage. This, however, is typically related to a gaming PC with all sorts of components, so the recommended PSU may be a bit of an overkill for the A1220.

I'm using one of those cables with a Sam460 and had no issues.

Cheers

The firmware/software shouldn't come into since it should be a straight pass-through, possibly with some capacitors on the power connections. It's not like PCI-PCIe adapters where the card can be hidden behind the bridge if the firmware isn't aware of such things.

Well I finally got around to using this case

Specs:

Checkmate 1500 Plus case
19" Sony Trinitron CRT
FPGA based 020 @ 40 Mhz (fast enough for WHLOAD games)
RTG/AGA output
256 MB FASTRAM
LAN
USB

I was after a new Amiga but didn't feel like messing about with 30 year old motherboards again trying to get something running properly (my last few A1200's all had issues). I would have considered a reproduction classic motherboard but they are only sold unpopulated so that's a non-starter for me.

Also considered a Vampire stand alone but decided that wasn't the direction I was interested in.

After watching the RMC Video showing how to mount a MisTer FPGA computer into a Checkmate 1500 case I decided to do the same thing.

Really loving the MiSTer!

It's great to be able to play Genesis/SNES games in 640*480 on a CRT and also classic 486 PC games using real general MIDI

The best part of the Amiga side is being able to run a sharp RTG Workbench and have it automatically switch over to PAL 50Hz for smooth gaming using WHDLOAD :D

a video

Wow nice! You give a new meaning to the term “cleanroom software engineering”, makes me wonder what it looks like behind the camera, hehe
