i think will be more simple port from x86_64 to Arm LE and not from X86_64 to Arm BE because endianess.

68K compatibility.

Not how I read it so I was merely clarifying he considers running his emu on bare metal essentially native.

@tlosm

As tim writes the plan is to keep m68k as binary type. A common platform to unify target platforms. Therefore big endian. X64 is le and arm le still possible.

Afair michal had quite promissing benchmarks with his
arm jit m68k emu. Remember no amiga hw will be emulated. Think of it like trance or petunia on cheap reasonably powerful contemporary hw.

Now i understand better, really interestig thing. This will make have the workbench 68k native software running much more faster on Arm . I think this will make the benefit for Vampire and ArosArm user.

Also instead of bickering about os 3.2 you could join on improving aros. But beware, gunnar is taking part as well.

How anyone safely submit anything to AROS when they are looking/have looked into the OS 3.1 sources, it would just invite Hyperion to take legal actions and jeopardize the whole project, right?

@wawa

its only legal as clean room implementation, likewise, using part of AROS for AmigaOS development can open license issues that can result in having to open source parts of the OS.

@wawa

Well the more the license problem deteriorate the harder to obey the different license, as essentially a contract between owner and user of that part, the user is obligated to not break that contract, so avoiding incompatible licenses is something cooperate companies think about.

While the license is not above the law, its whery costly to find out if you’re on the right side of the law. While the risk is maybe low, but it can be become really costly mistake if there is any ambiguity in any part of the license.

@NutsAboutAmiga

Don’t confuse distribution with using. Nothing prevents anyone from disassembling, mixing and meddling aros and amigaos code and binaries on their own systems, but distributing all this mess would break both licenses and copyright laws.

Btw: that article was the dumbest I’ve read today... the author seems to think people choose GPL just because “woo, open source”, and this is never really the case, typically a lot of effort goes into picking the most suited distribution license for open source code. The license this guy wants is a BSD license, and he’s free (woop woop) to pick it for his own code.

@NutsAboutAmiga

as far as I know aros sources where used for 3.9-development and aros does not require to open a commercial product but to give back changes. But I am not a expert in that legal field.

To be clear it actually only requires changes to existing files be returned. New files don't need to be handed over.

Yes, isn’t ironic that any sort of riff raff, software pirates and h4xors are welcomed and accepted to work on Amiga OS while “the free alternative” AROS has these silly restrictions due to risk of legal issues with the riff raff company?

As you might know the Apollo-Team does support the development of the free AROS Amiga Operating System.

To further emphasis this all V4-SA system
will be shipped including a pre-installed AROS Compact Flash.
