From time to time I submit my news here on Amigaworld.net. The approval process used to take hours... sometimes a day. However, in last year or two, the things have changed a lot. Now the news post is approved days or even weeks after its submission. It's VERY frustrating. My current news item is pending for 4 days now. My previous submission was pending for 2 weeks...

Imagine your Merry Christmas wish appears here in January next year... Or even worse - imagine someone's Weekend/Easter/BlackFriday/Christmas sale appears here after the sale is finished. That's annoying and makes you think twice before posting here at all. As a result, the website will get even less and less news submissions...

Looking at the Admin & Moderator list, here's their last login time:

amigadave - 1 day ago
Eric_S - 4 days ago
Yo - 4 days ago
_Steve_ - 11 days ago
sibbi - 11 days ago
DaveyD - 2 months ago
tomazkid - 2 months ago
fairlanefastback - last login 6 months ago
Darrin - last login 10 months ago
ChrisH - 2 years ago
zerohero - last login 3 years ago
Seer - last login 4 years ago
wegster - last login 6 years ago
opi - last login 7 years ago
Zardoz - last login 10 years ago
T_Bone - last login 12 years ago
Coder & Moxee - they both passed away but they are still listed as active moderators here... uff...

Looking at the "About Us" page, it says: "Amigaworld.net is currently one of the most popular Amiga sites on the internet Today and regularly receives well over 3/4 million page-views per month"

Really?

And it continues: "Recently we gained the status of hosting the Official AmigaOne forums and news, and in conjunction with a sponsorship deal from Eyetech..."

Recently? Really? Eyetech??

My questions: Is anyone really taking care of this website? If so, are there any updates planned? Anything? Site admins should get an email notification about news submissions at least...

@AmiKit

As I've posted numerous times, there are no "active" moderators on AW.

Those that do login probably do so as individuals and have simply never requested that their moderator banners be removed.

There is a system admin (sibbi) and 1 active site admin (_steve_). Either can approve news.

I'll leave a message regarding news approval.

@AmiKit
The problem comes for four or give years only since two years ago it has worsened with the news published with so delay, but this site currently is not the same that at the beginning, now nota works many options as submmit links, remove old links, submmit your Amiga pictures, rated the links and pictures, neither to make donations to this site, because all users we are good supporters when before the donation was for one year, only in this site work the censorship.
Amigaworld.net has death for its old success, now we have our own sites for every system and this site doesn't work like a mega site for all systems.

@number6

Thank you for your answer and effort. The news is published now. However it is buried in a scroll-down abyss of other accumulated news. Usual scenario...

Btw. it's not about the moderator banners. I took the admin & moderator list from "About Us" page and from here, for instance. Everything is massively outdated and includes dead people too. I cannot even find the right emoticon to express my feelings about that. The only updated thing here is the Privact Statement and that's only because of GDPR law requirement, I guess.

Anyway, number6, don't you want to become an admin here? With 10.747 posts you should get that status automatically

Yes, although I have correct the text because the Android movil and the autocorrector gives mistakes that someone can censor me.

I have wondered about the site the last few years its certainly a lot quieter these days, which is ironic given the Amiga community having many new products and developments now.

Maybe a site overhaul is in order, a new look perhaps and a recruitment drive for some new volunteers to be moderators?

Spud

Edit; and being on/off the site sporadically I had no idea about Coder until reading this thread. I remember his posts from years back, who can forget that avatar.

Its the same story with http://www.a-eon.com/ All Press Releases are gone. The Software Sites are not maintained and some even get a 404. X1000..gone. Prisma Site..coming soon. I guess in two more weeks. The facebook site is still active. But its not really a bubbling source of news.

And THIS is why we need to join forces and create a new Amiga website, friend LarsB.

We should create a kickstarter to support our new website, AmigaUniverse.org, where friends of Classic Amiga, Aros, AmigaOS, Vampire etc. (but not Morphos because come on who wants Morphos).

Now, I can see you asking yourself: but, MEGA_RJ_MICAL, why do we need money to create a simple forum and a web pages, we can do that easily with opensource software and a few bucks for some decent hosting!

The money, my friend, will be used to acquire all the other websites: abime.net, amiga.org, amigans.net, amigaworld.net itself and so forth and RAZE THEM TO THE GROUND, TEAR THEM TO PIECES WITHOUT COMPROMISES.

The homeless will pack up and march in long, heartbreaking lines toward this new, promised land. And we'll open our door and arms to them. We'll keep amigauniverse.org updated and responsive and reactive! And It will bear a golden shimmering footer saying that IT WAS ORIGINALLY FOUNDED BY MEGA_RJ_MICAL.

Such are my two cents, friend LarsB.
Keep them in your front pocket.
Close to your heart.

MEGA_RJ_MICAL MD

I had a similar thought: it wouldn't be much of an Amiga site if it wasn't neglected.

I would say English Amiga Forum and Apollo Forum are the go to sites at this point.

Active userbase and admins.

And it seems AROS got some activity too;

I have to give you props for bringing some fun to aw.net. You are the only reason to check into the umpteenth "Future direction for Amiga" thread
