Well if the website worked leading up to and following their announcement, that probably would have helped. And if the bundle program was less grey than the color of WWII mess hall gravy it probably would have helped with sales as well.

< This is coming from someone who actually purchased the bundle and has superglued his fingers crossed. >

@OlafS25: Close to 100 (from a batch of 100 boards) means that they are close to selling ALL the boards from the very first batch (and in combination with the bundle). I don´t see this "as a really disappointing number".

I expected them to sell 100 boards because there was no affordable option for years now. The reason why I mentioned that is how long they need to sell that small batch. I expected them to sell 100 boards like the V1200 boards (which were sold in one hour)

@OlafS25

I am thinking the lack of response is at least partly due to the requirement of ordering the AAA pack and the confusion with what that exactly means as far as ordering the board at a discount.

I've seen a lot of folks stating that they want the board but either don't want the AAA pack or are confused about it and are going to pass on it waiting for the general availability of the boards.

I ordered the AAA pack as I have been wanting an OS4 machine for about a decade now, so I was waiting with cash in-hand. I have been bitten more than once by "waiting for the next batch" of whatever (fill in the blank) piece of hardware only to have it never arrive.

Folks are cautious and I don't blame them one bit... The missteps, lack of business know-how and professionalism that is rampant in Amigaland does not foster much confidence.

I find it sad that this fact is certainly one thing that has been a hallmark of Amiga since it's inception. Even when it was a market leader.

Yeah. I waited a long time for a 2080 monitor, a long time ago. Apparently not many were made.

Of course it's not disappointing. What will be disappointing is the realization some prospective Early Adopters will soon come to: that they haven't actually saved anything by waiting for Option 2, simply because there will be no Option 2.

@Trixie

I can wait a little bit longer, but I expect others may be disappointed. This Early Adopter concept is a marketing failure.

I cannot imagine what support we are going to get if less than 100 boards are sold.

I think it is _very_ disappointing. It shows that there is not much demand. If there were, it would have sold like hot cakes. But it hasn't.

Okay, the kind of marketing, hasn't actually helped.

But hey, just do it like Donald Trump in Davos today: Say more "Hooray!" and less "Nay".

DT method = Ostrich method (put head into the sands)...

@pavlor

Early Adopter concept was marketing failure many ways.

1st was delay for a promised start.
2nd amigakit first version of AAA pack www page didn't tell how AAA pack buyers get A1222
2nd amigakit first version of AAA pack www page didn't mention enhance software at all

So this promotion was like not planned at all, almost like noby knew what to tell or write.

But I'm que anyway, as would regret if I not get one when availlable.

I see 100 sold as not to bad.
When we start taking them to shows and making youtube videos it will hopefully get others interested.
Maybe some developers bought some to get more software made.
I bought the pack because I have waited long enough and figure this is that last shot for this company to do anything with os4/amiga so gave them my support.
It would of been nice if they made something the size of the apple tv not like we need power being 32 bit single core and no software.

I will admit the botched pre-sales almost had me back out and just stay with my old amigas.
Really how can you announce to order something and not realize your website wasn't even ready LOL.

From EAB

Quote:

There is no "luck" - anyone who orders the AAA bundle will be guaranteed an option to buy the A1222 Plus Early Adopter board. If we have to make a few more boards to ensure every AAA bundle customer has opportunity, then so be it. We will be manufacturing ten percent more boards anyway to cover emergency stock for warranty issues etc.

So everyone who ordered AAA bundele will get A1222 if wanted.

About the registration code

Quote:

The registration codes will be in the AAA boxes when they are sent out- they will also be recorded in the order history on the AmigaKit website as soon as the order is processed.

Of course. See the beginning of the updated A1222plus FAQ.

The things that haven't helped:

- The extreme delay between the Tabor announcement and its actual manufacture;
- the lack of a conventional FPU, which has been discussed to death in these forums;
- the FUD and rumours that Tabor will be slow;
- the need to replace certain hardware components due to obsolescence;
- the unfinished drivers/Tabor-specific OS4 components;
- the rather unfortunate Early Adopter wrong-end-of-the-stick marketing campaign.

And despite all this, a 100 boards have been ordered in just three weeks. "Not much demand?" No, I don't thinks so.

Of course, you are right. As always usual naysayers appear to say sth negative about OS/HW they are not interested at all. And almost in the same time one of them appeal to "not rain on others parade"
Many potential buyers are waiting. Including me. I want to see the board available (not ready to PREORDER). I want to see ES2.0. Maybe Beta of LibreOffice or kind of core developement. I'm not in hurry, 2nd quarter is far away. I spent some cash to have fun with my SAM440 this month but I'm sure I will buy one of them, just a little bit later
And yeah, Early Adopter marketing was very bad.

...and as a side note, my advice to "red" users, do not congratulate others camps when sth positive happens. When sth nice happens on our side, you will get only "who cares", "PC has it since ages", "we dont need it", "half glass emptyt" kind of response.

Funny, isn't it? It's always the same story with our dear trolls.

it is always the same with the OS4 supporter

Every other comment is "trolling"

If you think 97 boards in 3 weeks is "success" than be it so

@OlafS25

The problem comes from the tone of engagement on both sides.
It tends to be either contemptuous or confrontational .

But lets us try to have a rational discussion.

97/100 with processing ongoing should be seen as definitely going to meeting the original goal.

Allowing the adaptation to the original plan ( see the new FAQ).
So now they will cater for more than the original 100 announced in the first run.
I would assume that there is no extra cost to produce more than the original first run number.
Original first run now at least 110 with 10 reserved for in warranty replacements .
As numbers above the 110 for the first run not set in stone the sky can be the limit.

Respect.

@Spectre660

we will see how many production runs will follow and how big these will be

My comparation was the V1200 who was released at about the same time with at least comparable prize and how fast it was sold out

If people think selling 100 devices in several weeks already is a big success then there is no reason to discuss ;). 1000 Tabor CPUs were bought so a lot of batches should follow (if the need is there)

@OlafS25

Probably the maximum interest will come when the audio driver is done and
prospective buyers can see that everything works ok and can gauge the performance.
