Dear friends of Amigaworld dot net,

what oh what is wrong with all these websites that should be hives of amiga-related action, and instead amount to nothing but dead pages and sick jokes?

www.amiga.com
A page that says "Rememeber when Amiga meant friend?". Plain text, not even the most pitiful attempt to design, not a link, nothing. And it's been like the for, what, a year? If I am not mistaken it also used to bear one of those silly empty promises like "come back in 2 weeks, you'll see something wonderful here".

www.amigaos.com
Plain unreachable! Good job!

www.aros-exec.org
"Restoring of service in progress -- Nicolas Mendoza 2019-11-29". It's been a while, hasn't it? Last time I checked it took a day or two to restore a webserver, regardless of how many services it hosted. A week maybe? Perhaps this needs a bounty, too! OPEN YOUR WALLETS, OH TREASURED FRIENDS OF THE AMIGA!

And perhaps, PERHAPS, Amigaworld.net could be next in line to be hit by this dreadful curse? entire threads are already vanishing into thin air with no explanation! I certainly hope not.

My life wouldn't be the same without the broken english, the rants on leveraging child labor to develop amiga software, the threads on Jesus and the ones on Amiga's future as a watch OS, quantum computer, brand of rat poison, political party.

May the curse of Amiga never descend like a deadly blanket of void on this portentous website which, I'll take this chance to remind you all, was originally founded by David Doyle.

@Argo

Why, friend Argo?
And how difficult it is to have one single line of code to redirect?

QUICK, TO THE BOUNTY MOBILE!

@MEGA_RJ_MICHELE

Don’t worry, the oldest and long standing Amiga.org (the sister website to this) has been upgraded in recent times and is still going strong from the mid nineties.

Has any of them ever been amiga websites anyway?

I dont remember that amigaos.com website and amiga.com might have had some content like 20 years ago.

More than a year. Since 2018.

Unused because...legal.

why aros-exec had to be closed?
afair it went the same way as many other sites, which lost proper maintenance as the crews crumbled out along the years. it was spam ridden till it became irreparable on outdated software and access rights belonging to someone who vanished a while back. so it went out of service abandoned, while the content has been rescued to a new location. albeit the histoy of posts is not easily accessible and the links leading there went broken.

sure its a pity as it has been a desired reference at times. but things like that happen. many will likely still miss utilitybase, a really helpful place to code for all amiga(like) targets. a biker bar where no matter an occasional brawl you could get and work together. some will recall entertaining chat on moobunny. aros developer list is likely almost dead after the development communication moved to other solutions, which is on one hand good, because its faster and more effective, but remains so well documented for future reference.
the remaining sites drag themselves along with sparce attendance, which reflects dwindling of the audience. the ones that flourish are genuine amiga (hardware) related, eab or a1k. to an extent amiga.org, but it become a shadow of what it once was.

i think its a natural course of events, there is nothing to do about it.

it redirected for a while, till not long ago a person, who funded it asked around, if this was still necessary and as result it has been dropped.

@amigakit

Yes it is.

But it looks like a forum, and it is :)

I mean a forum without the news section.

@AMIGAKILT

Except the logo.

God almighty lord of the the heavens and the earth and the sea and its wondrous creatures, your logo is abhorrent, my most treasured friend amigakilt.

@MEGA_RJ_MICAL

The Amiga.org logo is quite professional compared to some.

@MEGA_RJ_MICAL

Not really sure I understand the thread but just thought I would mention that my site gets an update each and every single day. Just saying.

http://www.scuzzscink.com/amiga/scuzzblog.htm

I would have read the thread but been a long day today trying to get two keyboards working on an A500. I got there in the end. Should feature on the blog early Feb... 5th Feb to be precise.

Tomorow I show how to dismantle an Amiga A4000/040 and put it back together. [ As you do !! ]

scuzz

Happy Days !

Right!

Who hasn't a newsreader or an irc client on their smartphones today? I hope the telnet and gopher accesses are well maintained, too!

Great attitude.
