| After having replaced battery on uA1 motherboard, my os4.1 Final does not boot anymore
always get: "no SLB found in any of the designated boot sources"
only thing I can do is booting from original IDE with CDRom and os4.1 update1 (no way to boot HD from original IDE)
can somebody help me in remind what has to be done to reconfigure uBoot for booting from SIL0680 (6/7 year passed since last battery replacement) I have 1HD 1CdRom on a channel and second HD and DVDBurner on second one
many thanks in advance for any help Alessandro _________________ uA1 750Gx AmigaOS 4.1 u6 512 MB SIL0680 HD 120GB + HD 20GB DVDRom + DVDWriter WNCE2001 wifi adapter ----------------------------- AlexDran.net |

U-Boot has lost your ENV-variables from the SD-RAM. Some of them it will regenerate, but others you will have to regenerate yourself.
The important variables are the devices to boot from. They are cleared when you open the U-Boot menu, so you have to reset them. THey are called "boot1", "boot2" and "boot3".
I don't have a Eyetech machine any more, so this description is based on a Sam's U-Boot. There may be some slight differences.
Go into the U-Boot menu: Either: interrupt loading to get a prompt and type "menu"; or hit space bar during boot.
You should see the "U-Boot Preferences menu". Select "Boot Sequence", hit Return, and you should see the "Boot Sequence" menu. Move cursor down to the line "OS MultiBoot Options" and hit Enter.
Now you should see the "OS MultiBoot Options" screen. It contains the three lines: "Boot Device 1", Boot Device 2" and "Boot Device 3", which you can set to different devices. U-Boot will look in each one in turn until it finds something it can boot from. If it can't find any bootable devices, you will see the message about "No SLB".
If you hit Return while the cursor is on each row, you can see a list of devices to choose from. Normally you would choose the DVD/CD-ROM as first choice, then your preferred boot disk, etc.
When you have set the variables to your liking, exit by hitting the ESC key. After a few ESC hits, you will see the "Save settings and exit" choice.
Make sure you save the settings or else they will only last for this boot. Also remember that the Boot Device settings are cleared every damn time you enter the U-Boot menu, so be prepared to do it again one day in the future.
Good luck!

first of all, thank you for your reply
I will check again once back home with uBoot settings, even if I had no chance so far
If I'm not wrong, I remember something like, uBoot for amigaone, was too old to support SIL, thus you had to change elsewhere (don't remember where)
I have tried from Prefs once loaded OS4.1 update1 from CD and also with variables
setenv sii0680ide_conf 1212 saveenv
no way !!! _________________ uA1 750Gx AmigaOS 4.1 u6 512 MB SIL0680 HD 120GB + HD 20GB DVDRom + DVDWriter WNCE2001 wifi adapter ----------------------------- AlexDran.net |

Well the obvious question is. Have you tried putting the SLB on the drive?maybe it is just corrupted and ends to be replaced. _________________ µA1-C/750FX@800Mhz/OS4.1 FE up#1 A4000/CSPPC 060-233/146Mb/CVPPC /OS3.9 A3000/CSPPC 060/233/64MB/Prometheus w/ Voodoo3/ OS3.9 A3000/PIV, A3000T/PIV |

Check through the instructions again given by tonyw which details how to change it in UBoot from the UBoot menu itself. I can assure you UBoot does support the SIL card. I have used it myself. This would be the best way as you can change it, save it, then boot HDD again.
You don't even need to use the UBoot CLI. Just the UBoot menu. Which will work fine.
However you can also use UBoot Prefs like you tested. It's all the same to UBoot. In this case in the first Boot tab change the bootsource to the controller type. If your first is for CD then change the second one, for two boot device options. Parallel SII IDE Disk is what you need to boot HDD off a 0680.
Keyword here is bootsource. |

solved, apparently problem was the cable, not correctly fitted in the SIL card !! _________________ uA1 750Gx AmigaOS 4.1 u6 512 MB SIL0680 HD 120GB + HD 20GB DVDRom + DVDWriter WNCE2001 wifi adapter ----------------------------- AlexDran.net |

Excellent.
And for future reference if you have not already done so:
in a shell type nvgetvar >[file path/name of your choice] Print out this file for your records in case uboot variables -do- become an issue in the future.
