Amidock is not maintained anymore whereas X-Dock is made by AEON (enhancer pack) and still updated (latest version is 2.42 from july 2019).

I use both : Amidock for volumes and X-Dock for App

Er yes it is, it's part of the OS. Last beta update was November 2019

So do I, I lauch an XDock with a selection of drawers from my AmiDock on the X1K These are my active projects and I take adavantage of the "open in Filer" option that X-Dock has.

But I also run AmiDock for the CPUInfo apps and the latest beta of AOrgansiser has docky support.

I use both. X-Dock is my main dock because it looks more modern than AmiDock, and does the job of launching apps equally well. I use AmiDock solely for dockies that do not have an X-Dock counterpart, namely: the CPUinfo docky, and the ZitaFTP docky.

(X-Dock has its own system of dock-hosted applications called "DockApps", which are not compatible with AmiDock dockies.)

@dirkzwager

I use both. I tend to use X-Dock for launching applications but still have to use AmiDock for Application Dockies.

X-Dock has a feature that I have wanted in AmiDock for ages, the dock window activates when the mouse is passed over it without having to click on the dock first. This make RMB handling so much easier. However the place where this would be most useful is App Dockies which I still have to use AmiDock for so no real gain there. So if wanting to use a feature on a programmes dock icon I still have to click it first and try to hit the border rather than the icon itself before I can use the RMB. If only XDock could shanghai the App Dockies it would be great.

If only AmiDock would have self activating windows or X-Dock supported the App Dockies then I could use just one and not both.

For launching apps both are roughly the same, X-Dock slightly has the edge as it can open sub docks relative to the parent dock, whereas in AmiDock they are at a fixed position and can open in the wrong places if you move the parent dock.

There's an docky for that :D
I'm not using it ATM but i remeber that i used to be annoyed when sub docks was opened in the wrong position so i found some docky. (and that one annoyed me in some other way iirc)

I think it is http://os4depot.net/?function=showfile&file=utility/docky/smartbutton-docky.lha

Like several here on the forum, I will give both a try. Probably there will be a manual for XDock / I am happy to find a lot of info for amidock.

I've put so much effort into customizing AmiDock that I just can't feel comfortable with X-Dock. It'd be nice if X-Dock could use AmiDock dockies though, that would probably make it easier for me to use it.

use both & like them equally as much though I keep AmiDock because I love my 'dockies' & they don't work with XDock
