See Trevor Dickinson of A-EON boot up his A1222 Tabor and also listen as Trevor greets the Australian Commodore/Amiga clubs. Go to

@kamelito

He said Prometheus was runing in HD and then mentioned 4K in the next breath but I didn't see him change any settings! Whether that was a work in progress comment I'm not sure. Impressive if it's possile though.

@RobertB

Nice to see. It was (still?) Without sound but the video played very smoothly.
Better than on my Sam 460 cr, it can certainly not play (full) HD without delays and shocks.
Bring it on ...

@dirkzwager

I noticed it was a new version of Emotion that he used. (1.5)
It could be that it was using hardware decoding.
There has been a few hints on this site about being a possibility in the near future.

Cheers

It must have been hardware decoding but was trevor claiming 4k video is possible with tweaks to the drivers?

Yes, it is hardware decoding. The first info about this was the beginning of this year:

https://www.amigascene.nl/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?post_id=80098#forumpost80098

Some guys posted a screenshot with 10% cpu Sam460ex usage playing a 4K movie...

WOW, 10% that's huge.
I have the HD radeon 7700. Not bad either, but I think I will have to buy a completely different graphics card.

Really love this, hope for HD cards support as well, or else need to change my water-cooling system :-/

Sounds great, couldn't see anything about it following that link though?

@dirkzwager

I don't now exactly where I read it, but they were porting it to the 7x00HD series.

But a guy posted a link on this site or Amiga.org to a Radeon Polaris card for 40e, not really a problem not to upgrade imho - if they do not port it to other series.

I hope hardware acceleration will work in Odyssey, leaving a lot of cpu cycles left if a movie is playing for parsing the website etc.

Benny, that's cheap indeed. And I have already thought about buying another card myself, but for now my HD7700 still meets my needs. But in time I will certainly buy another one. Even the new price is not too bad.

UVD support is coming for the SI cards but I'm told that it will be limited to 1080p due to the hardware but that should be satisfactory for most users.

@thread

Even at 1080p, with low cpu usage it could be a game changer as a small low powered plex server/player.

Even an Amazon Fire struggles with some content with subtitles in 2020.

Thanks for sharing @RobertB, exciting to see our beloved Amiga hitting the 4K.

What would be the optimized boot time?

I thought we'd agreed that it's currently limited to 1080p. If you know something we don't then say otherwise it's fake news!

@BigD

With a Polaris based card the upper limit is currently Ultra Wide resolution
which is 3840x1600 .

Annoying is, AEon is silent about it for ages....
