It has recently been suggested that the activity on most Amiga fora has diminished because of users taking to social media. The spread of the user base across several different Amiga fora may add to the problem, further diluting the community. In this poll, you are kindly asked to raise your voice and tell the world how this problem should be addressed.

@Petah

Logically, since English Amiga Board is the busiest we should all migrate there. For some reason I don't quite understand I feel more at home on AmigaWorld.net despite the security / hacking issues there's been over the years and the 'report' button being broken

... it's like a comfy old second hand Ford Capri; it's door is falling off the hinge and it is barely fit for purpose anymore. However, it reminds you of the sporty runner and chick magnet it once was and evokes feelings of nostalgia! You give it a free pass and keep filling the holes in the wings with newspaper and filler.

@Petah

Merge Amiga.org and Amigaworld.net as they have the same owner.

And of course, you forgot g:

The members of the Amiga community should collectively acquire the IP from Hyperion and end this inane legal squabble.

The level of activity has diminished because the platform is slowly and painfully stagnating.

Meanwhile, the world is experiencing explosive growth in all things retro.

@ne_one

Friend ne_one,

if we purchased stolen properties from those miserable thieving scum, we'd become fences.
Fences, my friend!

But back to the post original question: yes, fora should merge.
We should start with Amiga fora, merging.
But why stop there?

At that point, all Commodore fora should.
And then, all retro machines fora.
And one level up, all electronic-equipment-built-before-the-year-2000.

Up, up, up and a way,
to levels of abstraction we never dreamt of.
But then down, down, down, through the meanders of subfora,

back to Amigaworld.
Back to Amigaworld.net, that was originally created
for us
by David Doyle.

@Petah

IMHO, the forums should not unite or merge.

I think the dimished activity on the forums is easy to explain. For example, here in my part of Canada, it is summer time. We are busy with yardwork and gardens and farms. We are trying to salvage a summer that was put on hold by the COVID-19 pandemic. Businesses are attempting to restart. Everyone wants to do stuff outside. Unfortunately, some people refuse to obey the guidelines about social distancing and masks and, as a result, we are all walking on a very thin tight-rope.

*sigh*

no pancakes...

I say no, it's fine the way it is. The only possible advantage to combining everything into one super forum is that it would prevent people from posting in the wrong thread.

@BigD

I'll take mine with the 2.8 V6 and a manual. And hopefully the door's not falling off...

@Petah

I suppose it's annoying to have so many different online forums, especially when one considers how little news there is in our computing niche.

There is certainly plenty of opinions to go around, though. The ratio of opinion:news is so high that it would make sense to form a Fox-News-like Amiga News Network (ANN) channel where we would have 24h/day coverage of all the different views. We could also have special guests who have never used an Amiga to offer their opinions as well.

I can see it now: Intro music starts with serious drum beat. Big red and white checkerboard Boing Ball fills the screen, as it moves away it transforms into a rotating globe, while there is other rows of text scrolling right to left and left to right with Amiga ecosystem brands and phrases. The screen clears and the globe shrinks and transforms back into a rotating watermark Boing Ball in the bottom right with ANN next to it.

Yes and No to the idea.

Yes, it is a shame that the community is spread out quite thinly, through so many different web sites/forums/usernet/social and it kinda of would be cool to go to one mega Amiga site that you could get all the best topics, discussion and news from.

But No, because each site has kinda develop its own kind of community in a way, some are more OS4 focus, Classic Focus, Gaming Focus, Hardware focus, etc, so you would kind of lose that I feel in a mega site. Plus too many topics going on you would lose focus and might miss really good discussions / topics that a more focus site can bring.

Here another way of doing it with one of them Custom Start Pages you can do on the net, enjoy

Fox-News-like? generationamiga, amitopia, amiga-news. If those three pages united we'd almost be there. All necessary ingredients inside: fake news, bias, ignorance and click-bait. Only missing piece: a good looking and charismatic anchor(wo)man.

@thread
Nevertheless all those sites offer a certain amount of information and have a right to exist, much in contrast to this poll which lacks even the pancakes option which would grant it some minimal humoristic aspect at least.

And yet GenerationAmiga covers real news that AmigaWorld.net and Amiga.org miss because it's not Amiga any more once it gets ported to 'modern' platforms see news article link below! I got complaints about posting about the amazing Alien Breed 3D remaster using the ZDoom engine because that doesn't run on 'Amiga' hardware! Insane IMHO!

https://www.generationamiga.com/2020/07/18/after-27-years-amiga-shmup-1993-shenandoah-finally-launches-on-switch/

This looks like a great 'Amiga' game finally released for a 'modern' platform, but is it still Amiga news? I think that the developers should be supported for saving the source code and trying to earn a buck which may end with an Amiga back port in the future! Look what happened with Putty Squad!

@Thread

If someone else want to post this as an AmigaWorld news item then that would be good! I'm sick of the apathy and abuse from the AmigaNG die hards to be honest when there isn't even a cheap NG machine on sale right now!

If our support leads to an Amiga Classic back port then great! The same with Babylonian Twins.

Here's to waiting!

For forums that aren't mobile-friendly there is an app called Tapatalk. For Amigas there could be a similar app, possibly made in Hollywood 8.0 using RapaGUI 2.0 for portability. The only problem then, is that various different forums would have to run Tapatalk or a similar plug-in so the app could read them all.

For the record, I voted no.

@Samurai_Crow

Me too. There is a far bigger problem in that not only do with have multiple Amiga-like OSes but focusing on OS3 / OS4; the collaborators not only can't work together efficiently (Tabor drivers, Hyperion OS4 updates, Cloanto IP agreements for OS3.1.4 / Checkmate cases etc) but they can't stop litigating against one another! Compared to that an overlap of similar forum websites seems like a very 1st world problem
