Security and using YAM with Yahoo

I am running OS3.9 and using YAM as my email client. I recently got an email from Yahoo saying that my yahoo mail account needs attention. Apparently I need to generate a third party app password which I think I have done. This involved logging onto yahoo via a browser, entering my email address, and telling it to generate an app password which it did. The password consisted of four groups of 4 alpha characters with a space in between each of the four groups. I went into YAM's configuration screen and put the generated password in, saved the changed, and then tried to get my mail. This failed. I tried again by leaving out the spaces, and this also failed. I can still log into my email account via a web browser with my old original password.

Does anyone have any idea what I am doing wrong. That is, what am I supposed to do with this app password that yahoo generated for me?

As an alternative, can anyone tell me how to contact yahoo directly by either email?

Thanks.

@Ned

I did like what here is told for my (Windows) MailWasher (selecting Other from apps) https://help.yahoo.com/kb/new-mail-for-desktop/learn-generate-third-party-passwords-sln15241.html and got a password of 16 characters, no spaces. It has worked so far.

It doesn't sound right it would have spaces. Have you tried skipping the spaces? Also, did it give you the useful info? I just looked up the link and it doesn't say anything about any password settings, security or what type it is. How are you supposed to set this up when it doesn't list any basic info? I can see it's setup for old popular apps that figure out all the small technical details on their own but that isn't YAM which isn't automatic and needs a full manual set up.

Apart from that do you have the latest AmiSSL and YAM installed? And yes, that means running the beta version, as a full release hasn't happened in years.
