Poll : How are you usually dressed when using your Amiga?
Jeans and a t-shirt - basically my everyday clothing
Onesie - there's nothing like kicking back in leisure wear
Shorts and a tanktop - beachwear is relevant all year around
Underwear - why pretend to be fancy when we're all human?
Haute couture - I always strive to look my best
Something different (please elaborate in the thread)
Nothing at all

Amiga users are, like most people, a diverse bunch. Some vote Trump and Brexit, others detest nationalism. Some are vegans, while others eat anything with four or more legs. Some use the latest version of AmigaOS, and some refuse to upgrade their outdated systems. Most, if not all, Amiga users do however have likely something in common - they all use clothes; some out of necessity, others as a fashion statement. In this Special Amigaworld.net Monday Poll, you are kindly but firmly asked to let your fellow users know what garments you prefer wearing while zipping down the infobahn on your slick Amiga.

@Petah

I change into a blouson, suit and waistcoat. Top hat as a rule. I then wax my moustache and afix my pince-nez. Only then do I boot up my Amiga.

@golem

I'm the exact opposite. I usually wear nothing at all, but this is just a holdover from my youth. I used to go to nudist LAN parties back in the day, good times.

@BSzili

How odd. I dress in the (I thought mandatory) hooded robe, chant, do the whole blood bit and enjoy my Amiga.

@Cheese

Surely everyone gets changed into their Amiga Inc coupon scheme T-shirt and obligatory Amiga Bill tribute Checkmark baseball cap before using their Amiga with rabbit skin driving gloves?

Y-fronts with Jay Miner on the front and Medhi Ali on the Skidmarks (2) rear end is optional or a Kiki Stockhammer purple thong? Seriously, what were you expecting the responses to be?

It’s your female friend so dress to impress? I oscillate between a Zool, Superfrog and a Brian the Lion suit? I dress as the Psygnosis owl? I get my whole family to dress as Lemmings drive 6 hours to visit the Dundee Lemmings statues then drive 6 hours back to play 2-player Amiga Lemmings until our green hair dye starts to run?

A poll that really says there's nothing left to say that hasn't been said when it comes to Amiga. Petah you're not fooling us, we know you're really Quagmire. Giggity.

@Petah

Good mornin', all! A sensible 'POLL' after all of the nonsensical ones is realy a good reason to respond, so here I go. I voted the first option out of necessity, as the cat likes to sit on my lap while I'm at the 'throttles'. It likes to sit there no matter what my plans are and doing its utmost to draw (and get!) my attention.

Normally I would like to wear pantyhose whilst at the keyboard, but my cat has huge paws with sharp nails and not only start my upper legs looking then rather pockfaced, my pantyhoses would be at shambles by the score. So a pair of thick jeans, a T-shirt-and-sweater and a pair of socks are my regular computing dress. Just out of necessity as I already mentioned.

Being Dutch (and as the saying goes, you ain't much if you ain't Dutch or as we Dutch like to phrase it: joe eent mutsj if joe eent Dutsj), I would like to wear clogs, but that is a rather noisy afair in the house and little appreciated, as it is common practice to leave them at the front or backdoor.

On the other hand, I COULD wear a kilt, but the accompanying woolen socks are quite itchy all day long and that can be quite distracting. And the obligatory ghillie brogues have a hole in the soles and are a size to small. Not good for keyboard activities. Besides one of the cats has confiscated my glengary to sleep upon.

So, jeans, a T-shirt-and-sweater and a pair of socks it is. I hope you don't mind.

Hooded robe and sandals like any good cultists.
It *is* the Amiga after all.

Also:

Haha.
Refusing to upgrade their outdated system is what *every* Amiga, or clone fan does. Apart from those that use other systems too.
The attempt at a distinction between OS4 and anything else 20 years outdated was just a joke in line with the rest of the post right?

@fishy_fis

... maybe I’ll be tempted with AmigaOS 3.2.0 but I ‘failed’ to upgrade to 3.1.4 because it didn’t seem like a noticeable upgrade over 3.9! It was laughable to be told that the printer.device was upgraded at great effort when as far as I’m concerned the whole Amiga printing system always needed overhauling with something like TurboPrint as it was so basic.

I think the patches and updates with OS3.1.4 were more about code preservation and moving the Classic OS forwards once the court case is over than it ever was about an actual useful upgrade to anyone other than those that stuck with OS3.1 out of complete stubbornness regarding the CPU and memory requirements of 3.9!

Sometimes sticking with ‘what works’ is the sanest course of action! I wasn’t put on earth so that software developers could get regular payments for features I never requested e.g. macOS for the last 5 years. That’s not an issue in Amiga circles because Hyperion only pay their lawyers and not their developers!

@BigD

3.1.4 was primarely about releasing a "new" 68k Amiga OS by Hyperion, to show that Hyperion has "ownership" and "is doing something", it was almost comical how quick it was ushered out as full release with physical kickstarts and floppies (mis-labeled even).

@BigD

People can enjoy and use whatever they like, its no skin off my nose.
I just found the suggestion that OS4 was anything other than outdated funny.
Its still significantly behind Windows 98 in many, many ways.
All Amiga OS and derived systems are.
Its an archaic system be it os1.x, os2.x, os3.x, os4.x, morphos or aros.
Its good fun though and that's all that matters for a hobby.
