| Returning Amiga user....
Is it possible to Format PC0 on the Amiga?
I have an plain A1200 with a hard drive and I`d like to tranfer files back and forth.
Longer Term, I`ll get a network card or use a Compact Flash but in the mean time, I`d like to get files on floppy working first.
None of my PC's will format a 720k disk and the Amiga also refuses to format PC0 for some reason.
I have a fresh install of 3.1.4 on the Amiga.

Any suggestion how to get this onto the Amiga?
It was my plan to use this and the PCMCIA driver to get my PCMCIA/CompactFlash disk working, but I need the get the files onto the Amiga first.

I’m sure there’s a simpler way, but if all else failed, setting up something like a FreeDos boot USB key and formatting from there would probably work. _________________ "Knowledge is power. Power corrupts. Study hard, be evil." |

Also some with some drives you need to tape the hole on left side to make drive to use it as 720kb floppy. |

Thanks for all the replies guys. I`ve now got it nearly working!
I`d already covered the extra HD hole and tried USB floppy drives but I`d already read that them mostly don't work.
What threw me was that the 1 accessible PC I have with a real floppy drive in it also didn't work. turns out the floppy drive is duff (or needs a clean).
I`ve now put another drive in it and formatted it as 720k from windows 10.
Now the Amiga reports Read errors... I think all my drives need cleaning.

You should try a true DD floppy disk, not a HD disk with the HD hole covered. Pure DD drives often are not able to reliably write to HD floppy disks.
Maybe a serial connection could be an alternative: http://www.amigaforever.com/ae/
You only need the right cable, the software is free (unless you like it, then it's worth buying).

Yes I am sure I used to run pc0 mount then I could format pc0: in the shell or run format and it would be one of the options. HD disks with the hole covered up are not as reliable as others have said but can work. Sellers are charging a fortune for NOS DSDD disks now. _________________ Amiga A1200, 3.1 ROMs, Blizzard 1230 MKIV 64MB & FPU, 4GB DoM SSD, Workbench 3.1 |

What no HD floppy drive in 2021? I think there were two solutions;
1) LS120 drive was compatible with HD floppies 2) Power Computing 1.76 XL HD floppy drive
Then copy of CrossDos and your away!

I always thought the Zip Disk was the best way to transfer files between the PC and Amiga. _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." John Lasseter, Co-Founder of Pixar Animation Studios |

| Here is another option but your need a serial lead. Works great with small files
