@All

To give information to all newcomers to AmigaOS4, and even to those ones who considering buying sam460cr while owning something else for aos4 already (like me having also x5000 and pegasos2), I made probably one of my biggest and heavy video-work for, called "Sam460: from the Begining to the End". It is a long 45-minute video, with all the stuff like unpacking, checking, testing, installing of os4, real-life tests, subtitles, and co. The video is of 7 parts:

PART 1: Unpacking the package and close look at the motherboard
PART 2: The first run. Tests on the Table.
PART 3: Installing into the case. Vertical GFX setup.
PART 4: Installing of AmigaOS4 FE. an USB Stick way.
PART 5: The basic configuration: Network, Audio, and Extras
PART 6: UP 2 DATE. Installing Update1 and Update2
PART 7: Full settings. Real-life performance

So, feel free to check this out if you consider buying sam460! Hope you like it:

@kas1e

How’s the speed of this machine with a nice GPU? I’m thinking of getting one as a project build for a family member when they are available again.

@DiscreetFX

USB on Sam460 is MUCH faster than on x5000 (i mean pure copy operation from usb to hdd via dopus). That because in massstorage device there some "workarounds" to slow speed down for x5000 because of some bugs, which wasn't identfied and fixed for a long time still.

But in terms of Odyssey usage, SAM460 is definately slower. I can see it pretty well. Especially on video rendering (even via inbuild accelerated video player).

Also i found that pure loading of the game's data to the memory also slower on Sam460 than on X5000, which is can be no surprise, but still it visibly.

And in terms of FPS, it slower in about 3 times on all games i tried in compare with X5000.

In other words, its good enough for today, but x5000 better. But if one want just to spend only 700$ to have fully builded system , then its surely OK and good entry point for any interested in amigaos4.

Through installation will be pain (no RadeonRX drivers included in OS nstallation CD, no Uboot visibly , no USB boot by default in Uboot settings) - so for newcomer that kind of hard. But once all installed, all fine.

@kas1e

Excellent video! It was great to see the whole process of building the system from start to finish. Many good tips too, like the riser-card solution for example.
