What is the version number of this update? 3.3? It is not even noted inside of the archive, it seems. _________________ amiga-news.de |

"Make sense" is a little difficult
Currently there are 68k distributions and X86 distributions
On X86 there is Icaros desktop and AROS One X86. Icaros is based on Magellan and certainly the bigger distribution. There was a third light-weight distribution called AspireOS but I do not know if it is still in development. And a mixture between Linux and Aros but I did not hear much lately.
On 68k there are now ApolloOS R8 (based on Wanderer Desktop), then the former ApolloOS based on Magellan and updated, then my Aros Vision (based on Magellan) and AROS One 68k (again based on Wanderer). All differentiate regarding user interface, icons, functionality and desktop. ApolloOS and ApolloOS "Magellan" are more optimized for V4 whereas my distribution and AROS One 68k are at the moment for UAE. My next project will be Aros Vision on V4.
The foundations are more or less the same and what you like is your own decision. All are free of charge. Last edited by OlafS25 on 29-Dec-2021 at 08:54 PM. Last edited by OlafS25 on 29-Dec-2021 at 08:38 PM.

Today one small but important update (update 4). I have sorted out a problem so that iGame works again. Added also Fonteditor and Fontviewer.
If you have already downloaded one of the two archives (UAE or HDF) you can update from within (menu system/install/update). Startup-sequence and user-startup are not affected by it.
Or you download it from my download-page again: http://www.aros-platform.de/download.html
the update also include updates 1-3 f.e. CDROM-Filesystem and tools, virus protection, CRC-Checksums, encryption and decryption of files and some other changes

Thanks, it works well. I just got the hdf and the roms and tested it with Amiberry, on Manjaro Linux / Raspberry Pi 4. I had an old aros config, so I used that same setup. It worked at first try. Cdrom complains about scsi.device on startup, so I just moved the CD0 dosdriver to storage. |

| Is it possible to install MUI 4 or newer on Aros? Trying to install Hollywood Designer on it, but it requires at least MUI4
The MUI installer will return a coprocessor error at line 1111 when trying to install MUI. If I change to 040 CPU, there will be another error. Both errors forces me to reset the emulation.

yes and no
Theoretically it could work. For some time I preinstalled also MUI38 in it and you could change between Zune and MUI38. I left that out because for me the distribution did not boot when I used 3.8.
For the preferences you need Zune in any case |

The MUI 4 & 5 installers failed, so I tried copying the whole MUI folder from another drive. So in a way I got MUI 5 to run here under Aros, but it gave med an overall buggy system. And although Designer now starts to load, it will fail with 'Error creating application' Last edited by amyren on 17-Jan-2022 at 06:44 PM.

Last time I tried a AROS 68k distribution (don't ask me for a name), it booted from an USB stick.
The guy who made that distribution surely tried to impress me by setting up a super high-res screen as default and a totally alien GUI.
It was nearly impossible for me to change it to values that where usable on my PC, because I could not find the controls and the tools for adjusting the stupid workbench resolution.
Maybe this person should have learned from the typical windows installation CDs, starting with a VGA resolution and use a standard GUI (here an Amiga Workbench like GUI) for the first steps giving the user the possibility to change this after he started the system.
BTW.: What default resolution do you use on your distribution, and how hard is it to change to a Workbench like GUI like Wanderer?
Apendix: I thought it was Aeros: http://www.indiego.rocks/file/downloadApp/fd72c5b3fa2dfd022b061c6b003b0024 Last edited by OneTimer1 on 17-Jan-2022 at 06:18 PM. Last edited by OneTimer1 on 17-Jan-2022 at 05:55 PM.

it could have been aeros... it is a mixture between linux and aros (base is linux). Normally aros is running as application in linux so I do not know how it worked.
It has nothing to do with my 68k based distribution. Normally you can change screenmode easily in prefs
AEROS is X86. It includes UAE for 68k support Last edited by OlafS25 on 17-Jan-2022 at 11:34 PM.

for installer use system/install/installer from menu
it automatically downloads a installer that at least for me worked most of the time |
