I finally got my Pi 3A+ today and now my PiStorm32-lite is installed and running OS3.2.2 like a champ after copying over all my data from the onboard IDE to the Pi I’m amazed how stable it is and sure there are a few games or demos that don’t run but honestly 95% of all the stuff I tried out today runs crazy good and fast and after a good chunk of the day settling it up and using it the PiStorm32-lite was barely warm to the touch!

Congrats to the PiStorm team on delivering an open source accelerator solution that fits nicely into our beloved 1200’s and allows us to run the latest AmigaOS seamlessly without having to take on a mortagage to do so…game changer in 2023 :

@klx300r

Great news! I have my 030 A1200 pretty much stable and CF card now taking over HD duties from an old noisy mechanical drive. I thought I'd gone deaf when I unhooked the old drive! The PSU fan hardly spins up anymore either! I need a PiStorm32 to use some more juice and get 060+ with RTG performance!

@Karlos

Thank goodness you didn't say to use that horrid SysInfo

SysSpeed results comparing my 030@50, CS-MKIII 060@50 & TF1260-060@50:

android 17 wallpaper

also an impressive real world benchmark using Lightwave rendering at this thread

A4000, CS-MKIII, 060@50 (Rev1), OS3.2.1- 47m21

Amiga 1200, PiStorm32 with Raspberry Pi3a+ (March 10/23 firmware)- 5m59sec

only thing left to do for me is to bow down to the PiStorm team

The only fly in the ointment is the chip ram write speed which is about half what it should be. Other than that, phwoarrr!

@Karlos

How much faster would a CM4/RPi4 be?

@BigD

Chip ram access is the same as far as I can tell, but.tbe rest is significantly higher from results that I've seen posted.

@Karlos

Just messing with Graphics Programs! This kind of graphics manipulation/morphing/Lightwave programs would be almost in real time on a PiStorm32 equipped system I'm sure?

What do you mean “real time”? As in.. you can render a 5 minute lightwave scene from Bab5 at the speed of at least 30 frames per second? Sure, no problem - easily!!

@kolla

Sorry, Lightwave was a bad example. Meant morphing/Photogenics FX etc. There's some stutter with an 030. Not so much an issue with an 060 but not silky smooth with AGA screenmodes.

Oh, man. Please stop talking about the PiStorm32, my erect level is way past any safety level by now.
I may need to go to the hospital for dangerously low blood supply to my brain.

FWIW I think Kolla was being sarcastic here. Real world test benchmarks of lightwave for 68K running on different machines do show very strong performance for PiStorm, outclassed only by high end NG and UAE.

@BigD

Doug at 10MARC has just done a video about the PiStorm32 Lite where he shows rendering times both using AGA screenmodes (sloow) and RTG

@OldAmigan

For productivity if you have access to RTG you don't have a need for AGA

AGA is mainly for gaming. If you are comforted to RTG screenmodes you never look back ;)

@BigD

This one is actually more generic and can be used with any Amiga supporting i2c.library. Once ready it will go to aminet.
