| My main system is a bespoke 2.5GHz PCIe (1117) PowerMac to run MorphOS 3.18 on.
It is bespoke, because I took a single process/dual core 2.0 and swapped a 2.5 onto it. The benefit is that you don't need the liquid cooling and can just use the heatsink . It flies like the wind now .
I use it for 80% of my daily work and to post messages on Amigaworld.net |

Why such a planned drop in V4 usage in 2024? I plan to use mine even more. _________________ Sent from my Quantum Computer. |

Like the ancient native nomadic hunter-gatherer of the northern Americas, I follow the bison.
For anything exclusively SAGA/Maggie, I will use V4. For everything else 68k, I will look to use A1200 + PiStorm. Which is to say, I don't expect that much SAGA/Maggie specific software in 2024. Though I'd be happy to be proven wrong.
As our story unfolds into 2024, I can't help but feel like it's Amiga Wars Episode IV - A New Hope. The Empire's incomplete and long delayed Mini Death Star is yet another showing just how toothless it is. The Trade Federation is embattled in its own territorial disputes, and it appears the Attack of the Clones has a silver lining: The 68k rebellion is on the rise, and in 2023 we've seen real fear in the eyes of The Empire and its loyalists.
The Apollo shipbuilders on Corellia, after perfecting their new engines, have made for the rebellion a nice corvette, and some R&D on a small frigate, but they need more pilots. And pilots demand solid star-charts.
Will the new hope come from the remote world of MorphOS x64, or will it come from new PiStorm engines for the old Cumulus Class corsairs?

What i7 runs at 2.8ghz? None have for a long, long time apart from laptops.
There's an absolute world of difference in raw processing power on a modern pc vs older pcs.
An i9-13900k (my source of reference) under emulation absolutey destroys any "Amiga" (or Mac that runs Amiga OS derivatives) ppc hardware in terms of raw processing power. Its not even close. |

I *used* to use a X5k system until it went bust about a year ago and as the main reseller, alias the board's production coordinator (let's call him 'Matthew' for want of a name), does not respond to my emails about the board's repair, be prepared to me bailing out of anything Amiga. |
I'm sure your emails are caught in his "spam filter".

Simply marvellous! You must be so content and not need to evangelise your particular brand of Central Processor Unit because why would you? You've already got your 'Endian' away and are presumably smoking a cigarette to celebrate! _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." Well that's the thing about Needs: Everyone's are different.

My apologies for not being specific. My NG hardware reference was a SAM460. I am sure the X1000 is faster than UAE on an i5. Buffee is an equivalent 1GHz 68030 (using an ARM) in the form factor of a 68000 being developed by Renee Cousins. Last edited by PhantomInterrogative on 19-Dec-2023 at 11:05 AM.

It is a 4 year old Gaming Laptop (i8750H with 2060 Nvidia Card). I do not see the need to buy a new PC. Only game I buy on it currently, Baldur's Gate 3, runs extremely smoothly, even Starfield runs mostly smooth. And I don't buy an i9 just for emulation. But sure, an i9 would be faster. As is a M1 or M2 Mac. |

| OS4.1 on my X5000, is what I use the most and am most excited about. Wish I could use it even more. If I didn't have the X5000, I would emulate OS4.1 on what ever setup worked the best. After that I would probably emulate a 3.9 machine on the best platform I could find. Followed by running MorphOS on my G5 or upgrade my real Amigas to the highest level.

I was responding to your blanket statement that an emulated Amiga is slower than real hardware like x1000 or x5000. Its not. That was my point. Slower on *your* pc, but your pc isn't indicative of how fast emulation can be on x86 pcs. Thought it was pretty obvious.
As for you not buying an i9 for emulation.... err,... do I think I did? Or anyone else who uses emulation on modern hardware? No, they buy the machine and use software on it. Emulation being just one use. That's obvious to a point of it being a bit weird you'd even make that comment. Trying to make some sort of point that you didnt think through?
And its not like you cant control the host from the emulated environment anyway. Its what I do. Last edited by fishy_fis on 22-Dec-2023 at 11:35 PM. Last edited by fishy_fis on 22-Dec-2023 at 11:35 PM.
