then go for it I wait for your contributions
and who in the world or universe cares about MUI today. Even on amiga there is hardly anything new developed for it, most old software is abandoned. Nobody on Linux waits for some old amiga apps with MUI GUI |

who cares?
most old GUIs work, not all of course
new ones in development could be adapted if wanted. Example is iGame. Most older MUI apps are long abandoned and mostly not useable today anymore. On AmigaOS developers use Reaction. And MorphOS what app would potentially be ported? Wayfarer f.e. certainly is closed and will not be ported.
For me the discussions are theoretical here. BTW many GUIs work on Zune. And many of the old apps have aros versions so GUI is adapted.
I only see a problem if someone would be interested to create a new software using MUI and port it to different platforms. Hollywood is the only option I can think of if using the MUI framework for the GUI. But from my experience the amigaos 68k versions of your apps all work on Aros 68k. Other platforms I do not test. | I still call PPC systems running OS4 or MorphOS "NG", despite everything as it is useful to have a term to label these systems unambiguously, especially when talking about systems that run Amiga software.
Also, it's like an in-joke or something. "NG" could stand for anything. Nice Graphics. No Growth. New Grief. Network Glitchy. Last edited by Karlos on 28-Feb-2024 at 11:06 AM.

Not Good
it is certainly next generation if you compare it to 3.X on old 68k hardware. But it not says anything about usefullness in todays terms of course |

Mui has a ton of MCC and such... Exactly what does that means? As for Zune failing to comply... it still gets work done, and it's not that you a) cannot go and do it yourself, b) use mui if you feel like it... |
I don't mean any 3rd party MUI classes, but just the base installation with default classes. It might theoretically have most of the features implemented, but in practise there are still numerous issues from crashes to unexpected behaviour.
You probably haven't developed MUI applications on AROS x86/Zune, but if you do, you'll find out that some classes are unusable because of crashes, there are problems with notifications (missing notifications, notifications flood over wrong objects, missing trigger values, etc.), certain objects don't react to user interaction when they should, some objects don't refresh themselves automatically as they should but need window resizing or similar from users, listviews can be flashy and the active item behaves different way than on real MUI implementations... and then visual things that affect also to users and not just coders, like non-wrapping texts, texts leaking outside of objects, texts changing randomly to bold, missing images, wrong window sizes, etc. These are only some of my observations that I remember now, and who knows what other issues there are on the classes I haven't tried to use yet.
In any case, I haven't been able to compile half of my MUI applications to AROS because of these issues, and the ones I've been able to port have required many work-arounds, design changes, and even leaving some features out of AROS x86 versions while they work perfectly fine with MUI versions from 3.8 to 5.x on all other platforms.
But I guess we have to believe that the famous Somebody will fix all these issues at any minute now, because he has the Source Code :) And no, it won't be me, because I don't have time to be a betatester for an OS I don't use, let alone develop it. I've just tried to be friendly and compile/port my programs as many Amiga related platforms as I can without too much trouble._________________ - The wiki based MorphOS Library - Your starting point for MorphOS - Software made by jPV^RNO |

Isn't new software what's wanted on all platforms? What GUI toolkit should be used on AROS x86 then if not Zune? Or are you saying that AROS x86 should be killed and buried?_________________ - The wiki based MorphOS Library - Your starting point for MorphOS - Software made by jPV^RNO |

I would surely love to see it working on AROS, and you pose good questions, still if there's no developers taking ZUNE there's not much one could do about it, despite being open source and all... in 68k at least you have a bit more of leeway. I would surely love to see it up to 3.8 levels at least, and Feelin too since I'm on day dreaming

He is also called as "Nobody" :) But for real, if anyone would do proper bug reports, deadwood is fixing these kinds of issues currently. He has fixed some issues I've talked on forums, but as said, I just don't have to time to be a betatester and report everything. And there surely is loots of fixing.

Well, that was a long time ago, lots has changed since then, for example aros/68k distros with "real" MUI. _________________ B5D6A1D019D5D45BCC56F4782AC220D8B3E2A6CC |
