Text Marks

A quick question? does anyone know how to manage text marks within pagestream?
I can create them and insert them from the menu, but I cant delete them.

I seem to be getting duplicates, on the text mark selection list, and cant figure out a way to get rid of the duplicates.

I have "show invisibles" selected, which shows where they are in my book (540+ pages), but there are many more shown in the "insert text mark page number" window.

As far as I can see, there is no way to remove text marks unless deleting the text frame that has it.
Even no script command for that.
The text mark funtions are somehow broken on OS4 (DSI), so I never used them.

The only workaround seems to be copy the text frame content to a new text frame and remove the old one. A very unfortunate thing.

As I recall, PageStream was never fully finished and ported to OS4. There was only a buggy beta. Then it suddenly turned up for MorphOS. Strangely, despite the history, there no sign of any AmigaOS downloads. Even though it claims its for Amiga.

@Lazi

I use text marks extensiveley in my 'Martial Arts Kanji Dictionary'

They do work, but give a DSI error, and if you select ignore DSI errors pagestream accept them. My dictionary is 540+ pages, so there is quite a lot of cross-referencing. I published it on Amazon in the middle of August, and have started to add things to it lately. Hence the problem I found.

I am running Pagestream 4.1.5.6 from 2003, and it is certainly uaseable.
I bought an X5000, so I could carry on with publishing my dictionary.

@Hypex

I believe someone, the name Frank comes to mind helped fix the MorphOS version of PageStream.

Checked again the problem. The text marks stored in the document file inline with the text.
The only solution I can think of a tool that handle and correct text marks in the saved documents. As it is a well documented IFF file, it shouldn't be hard. I would love to make such a tool, but do not promise anything.

I am glad to see others are using this marvellous program too!

@DiscreetFX

It is an old rumour that PageStream5 has been fixed and working on MorphOS. Sad that nothing comes about this from the author of PageStream nor from MorphOS developers.

If this were released, it would certainly motivate at least myself to use MorphOS more.

I do and feel the same.

Only this problems I have on PGS4/OS4:
- the TTF font engine is facing challanges with postscript output
- TextFX GUI not working

And the most missing features that PGS5 could have:
- anti aliased screen font
- transparency

It has been released, and there has even been a series of articles on it in Amiga Future.

Ahh, thanks! It is really released in 2022. There was no news item here.
Tried it. It is working now.
Unfortunately it has some flaws in this state and given that not updated since 18 months it seems that MorphOS guys did their job, but Deron keeps it on ice.

Anyway back on topic: Text marks can be deleted on PGS5 by deleting the first character where it is linked.

edit: softer wording

@Lazi

Expect another update to the MorphOS version this year as well.

I use the current MorphOS build daily, and it is pretty bullet proof and functional at this point.

Yes it seemed very stable at the first look, but I am a bit annoyed that the ruler is blinking (redrawing) at every keypress while writing and moving the page with the middle mouse is much slower than the emulated 4.1.5.6 (68k) on the same machine.
Are you experience these too or is that something wrong with my settings?

If I really focus I can sometimes see a redraw but it isn't noticeable on my rig...

Never noticed it until you just mentioned it...

@Swoop

I made something for your problem. Please try it and let me know about your experience before I upload it to Aminet.

TMR.lha 2024-04-21 12:18 17K

From the readme:
PageStream 4 has no feature to remove added text marks in the document.
This tool loads any PageStream document and lists text marks found in that document. The selected text marks can be removed from the list and a new document can be saved with untouched content except the text marks.

The program is not distributed as executable, but in a Hollywood applet form.
To run the program it needs the Hollywood Player installed on the system which can be downloaded from here: https://hollywood-mal.com/download.html

For the GUI the program needs installed MUI and MUIRoyale Hollywood plugin. The latter can be downloaded from here: https://www.hollywood-mal.com/download/MUIRoyale.lha

This is a rough try to solve the problem and not well tested. Please report any foundings, problems, ideas to the author.

Thanks Lazi,

I will give it a try.
I have downloaded the various files and will give it a go this week.

Cheers

@Hypex

They do exist if you buy them.

I have 5.0.5.8a m68k and its readme still mentions some bugs

Known Amiga Bugs
----------------
Generally, the following do not need to be reported as I am aware of them. However, if
you have any behaviour information on them like aaa works if you do xxx, but not if you do yyy
that would be useful data to report. Thanks!

MUI/Interface issues:
- Scroll bar arrows don't seem to be working.
- Window scrolling/resizing doesn't redraw properly.
- Page/Document/Layer Palettes still need working over.

Display Library:
- No preferences printing yet, or HP/Epson printer drivers.
- Support for TrueType and Type 1 only. CG and DMF are up in the air.
- Only true color screen works at this time. With things like alpha blending, I'm not sure how,
if at all, non-true color screens will be supported with reasonable speed

There is also pgs4156pro m68k which works very stable and fine,?

There is OS4 beta, but that is verry unstable.

MorphOS developers seems to have helped to improve situation with their version of MOS5
