A nice idea. IF David Pleasance and Colin Proudfoot had their MBO proposal approved and HAD Amiga have continued - what would have happened. Extrapolated from what was being worked on before Commodore halted R&D, and the direction of travel in the microcomputer industry that followed. Should be an interesting read. _________________ Amiga A1200, 3.1 ROMs, Blizzard 1230 MKIV 64MB & FPU, 4GB DoM SSD, Workbench 3.1 |

Backed. I'll back any project to which Dave Haynie is attached.

Commodore's $40 PA-RISC clone's "cheap RISC" has been realized by ARM-based RISC CPUs.
I'll back this project with Dave Haynie.

What a horrible thing to say. Do you get that impression because you've chatted with him at retrocomputing shows? Or are you just the cynical type who loves to spout nonsense?
Money is a factor, for sure. No different from the fact that you work for money, and not for free. But how do you know he's not ALSO doing it for other reasons, such as social interaction, physical activity, mental health, cognitive maintenance, etc?
If your plan is to sit in a rocking chair all day and read newspapers during your senior years, you're probably going to an early grave.

One book at a time.
Please back this current book and just skip the next one about him wanting to win the lottery.

That may be so, but let's not forget Pleasance WAS a Commodore employee for over a decade. So if we're Commodore fans / Amiga fans, then what he writes could be worth reading. Doesn't mean you have to believe everything he writes, especially if he writes about things outside his expertise, such as deep technology topics.
Thankfully, Dave Haynie is involved in this book project, so you can trust his portion of the book dealing with technology.

| No I just met him back in the day when he wanted to buy Amiga. He should continue to tell stories or write science fiction to make money and this is fine by me… |

| I have not read anything by Mr Pleasance, due to lack of time. I assume lots of other people did though and if they think this is worth it, they'll buy it. Not sure why Kickstarter is being used for each book, are they 'produced' at a loss? I believe this would be the fourth book. I wonder because one of my friends considered publishing a book and was put off by the cost (hiring a ghost writer, having it published, etc.).

I really enjoyed the Vultures to Vampires trilogy by David and Trevor, so I’ll be supporting this effort as well soon. Last edited by DiscreetFX on 26-Jul-2024 at 07:11 AM.

Good luck David and Dave bringing this interesting book to life! It should be an exciting and fascinating read.

I have David Pleasance's Commodore the Inside Story - The Untold Tale of a Computer Giant and Brian Bagnall's Commodore - The Final Years to fill in the blanks between 1986 and 1994. I enjoyed both books. _________________ Amiga 1200 (rev 1D1, KS 3.2, PiStorm32/RPi CM4/Emu68) Amiga 500 (rev 6A, ECS, KS 3.2, PiStorm/RPi 4B/Emu68) Ryzen 9 7900X, DDR5-6000 64 GB RAM, GeForce RTX 4080 16 GB |

Yes, all theses books are about and tell the long drawn out technological tragedy that is the Amiga computer and its developers/various owners over the years and of course its users. Last edited by DiscreetFX on 31-Jul-2024 at 01:40 AM. Last edited by DiscreetFX on 30-Jul-2024 at 07:05 AM.
