| I sell my Amiga 1200 because aga was too slow for use I always wanted Amiga with native os, MMU, FPU, 2D and 3D as fast as on my first pc in 1996. I always wanted Amiga as fast and as comfortable as my first pc in 1996. at resonable price. PowerPC Amiga give me this. It is even better but I always just want Amiga as good as my first pc.
68k failed. after 29 years it is where it was in 1995. too slow cost too much and with no nice 3D.
I don't want use emulator. No fun in it. For pc I have windows since year 2000. (It means also for arm I have android since 2010)
So one PowerPC always PowerPC

Nobody has an issue that you like PPC, that's totally fine. Your argument as to why you like it is rather nonsensical as you picked some arbitrary point in time where you decided your A1200 was "too slow" compared to your PC, got a nice fast PPC machine and...
Well it's 2024 now. Your PPC machine as far behind your PC now - assuming your PC is current - as your A1200 was in 1996.
Don't get me wrong, I also live life as if it's still the 90's in my head because frankly the 21st century has been a monumental let down so far by all but a few metrics. So anyway, enjoy your PPC machine, I hope it gives you many more years of fun computing.
All I ask in return is that you recognise that other people have different happy places to go to and not to get bent out of shape if it's different than yours. _________________ Doing stupid things for fun... |

And this should apply to everybody (which is is rarely the case of 68k purists/extremists... and I'm also using a 68060)._________________ PowerMac G5 2,7Ghz - 2GB - Radeon 9650 - MorphOS 3.14 AmigaONE X1000, 2GB, Sapphire Radeon HD 7700 FPGA Replay + DB 68060 at 85Mhz |

Glad you still seem to enjoying your PowerPC OS4 machine, I'm sure its got it's good points. I hope as much of the good bits from OS4.1 as is feasible gets backported to OS3.3+.
I came close to taking the plunge myself with an X1000 but decided to hold off till all the drivers were working (onboard Ethernet from memory). I think they eventually sorted that out but by then I'd lost interest. I was expecting a LibreOffice port (still no sign of it's imminent appearance unless I've missed something) & was hopping for Firefox … which at least appeared, but I expected it to continually be updated otherwise what was the point!
We all know PowerPC Amiga hardware has reached the end of the line, however disappointing you or anyone else, finds it. I'm sure there will be new bits of OS4 software for a few years to come so as Karlos kind of said already, if your happy with your machine you can carry on enjoying what you have, it's not the end of the world. _________________ A1200+Mediator+Voodoo3+040+130mbRAM+0S3.9 A2000+Supra28mhz+9mbRAM+OS3.2.2, CD32 & WinUAE |

Wise words and sage advice.

PPC and 68K users arguing with each other over who has the deadest platform is rather ironic. |
One thing can't be more dead than another. What I am, and I hope others are arguing, is which of these architectures is more, um, for lack of a better term: resurrectable.
I too take no issue with one's preferred flavour of tech-necromancy, just as long as it doesn't evolve into tech-necrophilia. Ick.

My PowerPC Amiga compared to my pc is still better than my Amiga 1200 was in 1996 when I buy my first pc.
OCS was great. But after Amiga 500 production was stopped in june 1992 it should be replaced with something decent. AGA was too slow and too outdated. AGA should have chunky pixel. AGA should have real 16 bit color modes not HAM AGA should have at least some basic 3D like texture mapping.
Amiga is computer for graphics. PowerPC Amiga is everything I want. nice graphics at least as good as my first pc even better. 68k failed to deliver that. I may consider use 68k when it will be as comfortable as my first pc at resonable price. And native not emulator.

Why doesn't Linux or MacOS have the same parallels for ppc as x86 does for Windows / ARM for Android for you?
Enjoy what you like, no-one has a problem with what others use. Much like yourself people have chosen to use what they enjoy. Every Amiga and Amiga like option has pros and cons and people make the decision(s) they do based on that. Architecture is only relevant to an individuals interests/needs, dismissing them based on what other OSes are available for an ISA, while not doing the same for your choice is convenient at best.
Perhaps try applying the same freedom of personal interest to others as you would have them give you? Like it or not, but anything else would make you a hypocrite, and no-one will ever take someone who moves goalposts on a whim seriously. Last edited by fishy_fis on 05-Nov-2024 at 05:09 AM.

AGA is just Amiga's hit-the-metal VGA-like (minus chunky pixels support for more than 2 colors) games legacy which is important for games around 1995.
Amiga's chunky pixel is just 1 bitplane. LOL
Instead of Windows NT 3.51 or 4.0, the main reason for Windows 95's ability to switch back to DOS is legacy e.g. DOS games.
AGA is too slow for 640x480 256 color games like Diablo (1997) or Starcraft (1998).

Think of bare metal Emu68 as a 68K microcode for the ARMv8 CPU core.
Emu68's RTG is an actual Broadcom VideoCore IV and VI P96 RTG driver.
Emu68 is NOT UAE. Last edited by Hammer on 05-Nov-2024 at 05:34 AM. Last edited by Hammer on 05-Nov-2024 at 05:30 AM.

| I like my X5000 but have no illusions about PPC being a healthy market. It’s too bad really, once Apple bought PA-Semi and left PPC forever the market was never the same and has been shrinking since that day which was almost 20 years ago. _________________ Sent from my Quantum Computer. |

No doubt x1000 was way more powerful then my died A1200 it was replacing. Problem is software always in beta and not holding to promises, that you simply ignore.
It was retired and then sold just because Linux could do better on stronger machines and OS4 simply failed to be viable option (as promised with OS 4.2 and later TW and Libre at time of x1000 mistery launch( \ Comprende?
No one hates hardware. | The AmigaONE X1000 and AmigaOS4 (when stable) is the best Next Gen / Modern Amiga experience I have had, it was worth the money and fun I had on the system,
BUT and its a big BUT, I recognised two important things,
ONE, PPC is unfortunately now nearly a dead platform or very expensive and limited platform thats really only being used by Military, Space and maybe Servers farms and not designed for a desktop platform anymore. So its unlikely any affordable hardware is coming out.
TWO, the Amiga community and the devs that are left, their just not enough of them, and dont get me wrong I appreciate and commend every dev still working on Amiga, but to get the big apps and programs over it clear we need a bigger resource than the current Amiga community got, hell even the Linux community struggle to get main stream support. I really do think we push above our weight for what is delivered, really. But its why I recognised now that maybe a system like Rabbit Hole is the best we can do and still kinda have access to the modern day apps and programs. I mean I know a modern Web Browser ported would solved a lot of the issue, but particularly main stream webapps, like Discord, YouTube, Spotify, Etc how long would they work on the browser, these website often are updated with the latest tech. Plus i feel the few devs left we have should be making more Amiga-inspired programs, thats why where all here anyway.
So i like PPC and the effort thats been made to push the platform forward, I just wish it wasnt kinda trapped on PPC and something maybe more like Amikit XE solution be embraced as the way to go now. But at least we all have options and I kinda made mine now. Last edited by amigang on 05-Nov-2024 at 10:48 AM.

My cell phone is faster than any PowerPC amiga too.
Personally the Rock 5 ITX with a litefury is going to be my new toy as soon as it gets here. That to me is more exciting than either PowerPC or 68K. :D

The 68k Amiga was designed to be a cheap toy and it could be much cheaper today but now cheap toys have more performance than even the highest performance PPC AmigaNOne computers that aren't at all cheap. Only Amiga makes it possible.
