Amigaworld.net News   Amigaworld.net News : The A1200 NG Video Playback
   posted by amigakit on 17-Jun-2025 20:15:13 (938 reads)
The A1200 NG and A600GS will have the new PlayVideo utility in the next free update.

With this new tool, MPEG videos can be easily played on AmiBench through either using the CLI, clicking DefIcons or selection of the video files in an ASL requester. Videos can be optionally played on the AmiBench screen or full screen. This is accelerated by the ARM native libraries.

CLI usage: Click the YouTube link to view a demonstration

ASL Requester: Click the YouTube link to view a demonstration

Interested to know if they've built a proper multimedia subsystem around this like some kind of va.library for 68k

@mobileconnect

We are next going to refine the functions into a library and document them for developers to make use of them.

@amikit

As @amiwell asked, a web browser would be nice. I have a A600GS with no web browser.

Also, how to install GCC to develop on the A600GS? Including libsdl would be nice. I got gcc working on a ArosOne VM to compile and run a basic SDL app, so wanting to try it on my A600GS.

And when will the version of FinalWriter on the A600GS include a dictionary for spell checking?

When will Octamed Sound Studio be available as a stand alone product for classic Amigas?

I would be interested in the purchase but I wanted to know if it's possible to install a browser like ibrowse or aweb which has been updated for secure connections and is open source.

As for a browser, SkulleateR reports on Amiga.org that AmiFox on AmiBench works great. Have you tried that one?

@amiwell

I wonder if OWB could be ported to AmiBench?

Deadwood is available if someone wants to port owb, in this case the only solution is to use the arm processor.
