Cool!

In case you missed that, "Cool!"

I'll wait until Hyperion has Amiga OS 4 running on an AmigaOne then I'll check it out and see about getting a G4 setup.

How about getting grabs from when people have had a chance to play with it too?

Would be good to see what sorta thing you can get upto with it in a normal users hands!

-edit-
You think that Hyperion would mind if i put these up on my site too?

Looking good!

but.....personally I feel its a bit, well erm... grey!

the icons could at least be more than just black line drawings!

Saying that this looks like a very low system overhead default, as it should be. The users can customise it more I guess.

Could I suggest a few different styles as choices?

A "high colour" scheme would be nice too. With nicer icons etc...

Remember these "test" concept ideas I posted a while back.....I don't mean to blow my own trumpet, I just offer these as they are the most easy to hand atm.... could you at least offer window icons of a higher colour type! Here is a pic of one window of the concept I posted a while back:

CnlPepper - Love the font engine btw!

Looks great!
Looks new, but still looks Amiga, as it should do!

Great choice for the default look. If somebody wishes
something more "fancy" it can be done too..

Bye
Francesco

Damm, I can't wait too, but that default look, ack!!

What's with the retro look? I know we can re-config but I was expecting a bit more than 3.0 (look) with gradients.

And I was hoping they would alter the icons, those gray shadows look awful an anything except bright backgrounds.

That should be possible to do. As you can see in one of the shots, the gradient designer is very flexible. The sysimage classes would need some rewriting for that, but basically everything is possible.

The main point in the new GUI design was that it should be immediately recognizable as Intuition, and should still have a modern look to it.

Well here's my take on it... first of all, what default look? The news article said 'default intuition look' not 'default theme'. And you'll notice that each screen shot is a bit different.

I like the colourful highlited window, but I agree the grey looks a bit poor and as someone else said 'retro' nowadays. It doesn't look quite as good as my windows configuration, but as we all know that's not what counts. :)

Looks good!!

I'll be getting my AmigaOne next week so I can't wait for OS 4 arriving for it.

If this is the default look, then I think it's quite good. I hope the glow icons will be kept because I think they are quite good.

It certainly is recongisable as intuition....but I'm not entirely sure that is a good thing.....its very old and not famed for its good looks! :)

with regards to the sysimage classes....I thought his GUI system was based around the features provided by VisualPrefs and Birdie (plus more obviously!) you could replace sysimages in visualprefs, why not now?

Out of interest when/if you do implement replacing all sysimages could I suggest highcolour support with a seperate 8bit alpha channel - allows for adding partial transparent shadows etc...

CnlPepper - Happy with what he sees so far, make no mistake! :)

Oh yeah, I also have to admit the font anti-aliasing seeks a bit flakey... i'm hoping its just a matter of the image being compressed and resized, but it looks more 'smudged' than 'smoothed' in places.

I'm not a fan of glowicons, especially the brash-green/blue coloured drawer icons like the one in the right of the first pic.

Will the gui customisation go as far as to define precisely what gadgets look like, or will you only be able to choose from a preset set of gadgets like XEN and flat (like in visualprefs) ?

Oh wow! That is gorgeous! IMHO, that is a fantastic look, and is WAY better than the default OS X or WinXP theme, IMHO!

I'm so relieved that the default look is still very Amiga, yet.. just... NICE!

Yeah, that looks like JPEG artifacts to me. I'm sure it looks cleaner on the actual display.

It's more about the vector images. All the gradients are generated, not bitmapped. You can still use the VisualPrefs themes, though.

There are some things planned for OS 4.1.

Oh, and did I mention that the Mandelbrot PPC demo zooms in real-time?

Excellent. Clean, crisp and very familiar as an AmigaOS look.
I'm glad they also decided to keep the traditional closing
gadget and not introduced some "x"-shape thingie. It might be
a little grey, but it's certainly clean and crisp. The metallic
texture is already there an indicator of new things to come.
