I'm really looking forward to trying AWeb 3.5 (using 3.4 APL just now) mainly for the double buffering.

However, when I try to install (in AmigaOS4) I get:

"This archive was designed for the 68040 processor, please download the correct version for your CPU".

Is there another version?

@ RedMelons

Have you tried downloading the source, and compiling it for Amiga OS 4.0?

There is an error in the installer it check for 68040 in linie 70, change that to 68020 and the install will work on OS4

Edit: According to the about window is a 68020 version

WOW! Great improvements to the rendering and layout! I always hated the fact that it had to redraw the whole page for the images. With an PowerPC version in OS4 this will be sweet!

How do AWeb and IBrowse compare to each other, and to something like Firebird or IE? This probably sounds a bit trollish, but I don't want to juggle browsers - I will pick just one browser and stick with it (at least until another gets better than the first one, anyway). This browser will be IE or an Amiga browser. If I can browse AWN, google, at least 50% of the sites I need to, and buy stuff off Amazon and eBay, that's enough for me to dump IE. The next question would then be which of the remaining two browsers to pick.

Wow its been a long time since I last used AWEB but as Shoe says a great improvement...
It does as good a job of rendering certain sites as even IBrowse (my Amiga browswer of choice) but seems to have trouble with others, the Amigaworld logo bar for example isn't loading for me.
Well done to those working hard to bring us a better Amiga web experience of every flavour

Edited as I was speaking utter rubbish at one point

@Jamie_S: Have you installed the full AWEB 3.4 APL with the GIF plugin (then configure Viewers to use the plugin)?

Amigaworld.net displays fine here.

No I'm playing with the 3.5beta so I appreciate its in testing not finished etc
I've been fiddling with the font settings (Use This Font Name For All button is genius ) and the logo image seems to have reappeared so perhaps just a connection problem.
There seems to be little white boxes on what I guess must be tables within the page also.
Nice work though

I've been able to use Firebird to do all my browsing, including EBay, Amazon, etc. Even my bank cooperates with Firebird.

Can't speak to AWeb or IBrowse, sorry

I noticed these on the changelog:

- GOPHER SUPPORT
Does Gopher still exist ? It's even older than my beginning in the computer world and I never used it !!!

- DEVELOPER COMPILE
Very good idea. I hope every program will be released with a debug version in the future. It helps a lot when you look for a bug.

bye

Im using it in AmigaForever 6 Emulating a 68040, 8mb Ram etc etc.

It works fine.. Everything on Amiga World renders.
However browsing on an Amiga is still pretty horrible. The gui guys - the
buttons need polish.

And I'm posting this in Safari.

And about the buttons needing polish, I think a lot more than that needs polish. I would really like to turn AWeb into a browser with a clever interface, which is fast and easy to use and adapts to the user in a flexible way, which is the Amiga way. A good place to start is the URL bar, which is basically dumb as a ... textfield.

Pour in the ideas, guys. And thanks for feedback.

Whatever happened to that web browsing component Hyperion said was going to be part of OS4? IIRC it was supposed to be like the IE APIs in Windows, ie a library you could use to display HTML inside your own programs. That should let browser authors not worry about the nuts and bolts of basic browsing and concentrate instead on cooler stuff like tabs, gestures, etc. Is that going to be in the final version only, or has it been bumped off to 4.x (since there are probably a zillion things that are more critical than an HTML API)?

However, the most important reason is because a brand new, world class HTML rendering solution is one of elements of AmigaOS4.1.

Nice work.... until you try to access Google. It then crashes. I tried it about five times. It doesn't like Google.

Could you specify your system and exactly what happens and what programs are running in the background?
