Software News   Software News : Project Starfighter SDL / GPL Os4 Native Released
posted by Toaks on 23-Oct-2004 13:52:12 (5617 reads)
Based on the requests from the SDL thread here at AW Costel 'Cyborg' Mincea made a port of this Shoot Em Up Game.

Project: Starfighter (AmigaOS4)

This is basically a straight recompile of Project: Starfighter v1.1
for AmigaOS4, a SDL based shoot-em-up. Very few changes were applied
to the sources (actually, only some minor bug fixes).

For more information on Project: Starfighter please visit the project Website

You can download the Os4 port from the Os4Depot Here

Thx Toaks, I just submitted my own news item for this, but you were faster

@ all

I just uploaded a bugfixed version of Starfighter which fixed a bug for the fullscreen mode.. if someone already downloaded the old one, please download the new one (with "*BUGFIX*" in the short description on os4depot) again. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Yeah, I think I ran into that bug earlier. Downloading the new version now.

What I did see of it before the crash was pretty good, though. Can't wait to try it with the bugfixed version.

Thanks Cyborg

Now have enough OS4 games to keep me busy the next week or two
Thanks to everyone doing software for OS4.

Btw. Are there anyone who know if Hollywood(+GUI) will come in a native OS4 version anytime soon? Ohh, and what happened to WildfirePPC and was it any good (it just crossed my mind, know I'm offtopic).

Best regards
Troels

From the Starfighter docs:

Quote:
Parallel Realities started off writing games on the Amiga using AMOS and then, later, Blitz Basic 2. Games written included the BOTSS Trilogy and most notably TANX Squadron. TANX Squadron was awarded Amiga Format's contributor prize of the month in the summer of 1999. Project: Starfighter originally started life on the Amiga but was never completed. Development began again for Linux in 2002 with this being our first C program.

Nice to see the games returning home

Very nice.
Can't seem to get sound going though.
Anything special that needs to be done to get sound?

I like all these SDL / GPL type games being released. If I got this right, as it is GPL, the source should be available. If so I am very greatful as I can learn alot about how windowed and full screen graphics are done on the Amiga these days. It sounds like it will run on OS3.9 and OS4.0 with a recompile which is good as I can run it on Win UAE in the meantime.

(any chance it can compile / run on OS3.1?)

check the sdl thread as there is a 68k version allready and it came quite some time ago , this is one of the reasons why it was suggested/requested for os4 i guess (and ofcourse because its an awesome game

thomazkid:

well the intro doesnt have sound it seems but menu and ingame has brilliant amiga scene demo music , amiga users will know theese songs from the past for sure

@all

anyway this was one hell'u'va game and might be the most addictive game i have tried so far on os4 with kobodeluxe on second place.

i got to the first boss and then i had to put it down as my monitor nearly flew out the window.....and yes im serious , my gf told me to calm down quite a few times

i went to bed with a heartbeat of an athlete so i guess ....this game is pretty good for taking it out (stress)

I hope the following game is Rise of the Triad. I really liked that game.

There is an SDL version of this game. The GP32 even has a Rise of the Triad.

Great to see Project:Starfighter has been ported. Anyone care to do Blob Wars: Metal Blob Solid? It's going down a storm in the Linux World.

Blob Wars

It does require SDL_TTF though which I don't think has been ported yet.

Again: Yes, i'm already on it

Actually, i've just finished porting of SDL_net and SDL_ttf a few minutes ago..
BUT, as i've just done quick-ports i yet have to test if the libs are working.. i don't trust my recompilation of freetype2 yet
