posted by Cyborg on 25-Oct-2004 18:24:20 (4658 reads)
After some headbanging days of porting, you can finally enjoy Blobwars: Metal Blob Solid on AmigaOS4.

"Blobwars: Metal Blob Solid" is a SDL based plattform shoot 'em up by Parallel Realities ("Project: Starfighter"). Take on the role of fearless Blob soldier, Bob, and attempt to rescue as many MIAs as possible in this thrilling first episode of the Blob Wars Saga.

See the Blobwars website for further details.

As usual, you can download from os4depot.net. - [mirror]

Hope you'll enjoy this and find no single bug

The file hasn't appeared on OS4Depot yet - hopefully there will be some activity there shortly

In the meantime - whats next?

First of all, thank you for the positive feedback.. it seems, i somehow catched some kind of "porting virus" the last days.. let's see how long it lasts

Second, my apologies for the news-before-available thingy.. i uploaded the file and wrote the news item in a hurry and thought Orgin (or any other os4depot chief) would be as fast as on the other days... well, it seems even they have a life beside Amiga

Please stay tuned, the archive is already in the upload dir of os4depot and only needs to be moved.. but for all you dudes without any patience: You can get the game meanwhile from my server: blobwarsaos4.lha (~10MB !)

Tomorrow the file will vanish again (as soon as i woke up and its online on os4depot ), so hurry up

Let go of the penicillin and slowly back away with your hands where I can see them!

Now, if you plan on keeping the virus around for a few more days, how about a nice game of Mahjong or Shishenshou? That'd be worth a dancing banan post in my book!

@ spotUP

I just had a look at your Super Mario clone.. but before you're rolling on the floor crying: It needs SDL_gfx, which isn't ported yet.. i don't know how much work it is, but i'll have a look if time permits.. after that, the main work could began.. but don't hold your breath for..

@ mjohnson

I don't have a clue about these sort of games But if you could provide some project-links to one or two good reincarnations of these, i could have a look.. if time permits (tm)

While you're sick with the virus, perhaps you can port Mozilla?

@ CyberViking2000

Actually, no.. i wouldn't port Mozilla.. if i had more time, i would - as i actually planned - join the KHTML porting effort of the AWeb team.. that would make more sense to me... but i got your point

@ Toaks

Yeah its a pitty... thas happening if you upload and news-post in a hurry because you're already 20 minutes late for some pints and darts and think other people have nothing better too do as to wait for some of your software to be uploaded...

@ all

In the meantime:
PLEASE USE MY SERVER FOR DOWNLOADING BLOBWARS!

@ DaveP or any other moderator

Could you please update the news item with the above link as download mirror? Thanks.

Thanks Cyborg,

what was the original problem with the compilation? I only managed to compile a 68k version but it was very hacked up and ran at seconds-per-frame instead of frames-per-second

Aaah. That's right. That damned SDL_gfx. :/
BTW, do you submit your SDL ports somewhere? (Not you game ports, your app ports, like SDL_ttf and so on). Would be nice if more people could take advantage of them. :)
OK, not holding my breath then, but it would be sweet to hear how much work it is/how you get along with that SDL_gfx thingie.

As i've already done with Starfighter, i'll prepare a diff source patch and send it to you with some remarks... i'll tell you about the problem within that mail.. i hope i'll find some time today.. your mail address on parallelrealities.com is valid?

Guess what? Already recompiled TBH, it really was just a matter of writing a Makefile and adding 5 (five) lines of code.. never thought it would be that simple...

Yes, i hope i'll soon find some time to polish them a bit up, make versions for newlib too and pack them as SDK-Contrib.. then i'll at least submit them to Hyperion.. i guess they'll will offer them on their site then.. but if not, well, there is my own site and os4depot, aren't they?

If you send it to my brother instead, you can get his details from

He does the majority (All) of the work
