@ Fellow Rick Dangerous fan

Please be a bit quicker next time, saves me some trouble.

Xrick is the name of the SDL Version of Rick Dangerous 1 and it's based upon the Atari ST version

Way before Lara Croft, back in the 1980's and early 1990's, Rick Dangerous was the Indiana Jones of computer games, running away from rolling rocks, avoiding traps, from South America to a futuristic missile base via Egypt and the Schwarzendumpf castle.

This Quick port was based upon requests in the SDL thread here at AmigaWorld.

To Thoose of you who played the orginal game on the Amiga Classic will notice that both the gfx and the sound aint up to where the Amiga version was as this is based upon The Atari ST version.

The Game Can be downloaded Here: Xrick SDL

Information about this SDL game (and diffrent ports) can be found Here!

And last but not least Some Screenshots!

Amiga Os4 Port was done by Thomas Frieden and based upon requests in the SDL thread here at AmigaWorld.

Have fun.

great game but .....shame it got so ####e sound......compared to the miggy version anyway.

It is (like the original) one of those games where you have to learn the map well (the traps, enemy movements) and even then it is hard. But that is part of the 'old skool charm' the game has - each time you advance a bit further, which makes it quite addictive experience

@The_Editor

Double-click the xrick.exe icon with no options - you can see it if you select 'show all' for the XRick window. This opens the game in window mode which works for me (I also get this scrambled graphics in fullscreen mode).

Great game, shame about the sounds - Rick sounds like a girl when he dies (no offense ). Any way to get the Amiga version sound FX into the game?

Oh no... Rick Dangerous wasted so many hours of my time. I always had to try to clear the level just "one more time". And those horrible "waaaaaaaaaaaaah" screams when you didn't make it could nearly make you jump.

AFAIK "the guy you know" didn't gave up, but was rather disappointed coz of the poor sound, etc. so he only sent you the port and didn't publish it.. ;)

BTW: The very same "guy you know" ported "Q" (a puzzle game by parallel realities) some time ago and also decided not to publish it, because it seemed not complete to him.. and now the "others" have released this very same game for MOS.. maybe i should really tell the "guy we know" he should release what he ported, nevertheless what's his opinion about it ;)

oh, and yes, "the guy you know" is right: play Rick on UAE instead

Someone change that 'uploaded' link. It takes to to a submission page i think.

-- edit --
BTW: Thanks for This game. It was an addiction years ago. I'm sure it will be again. :)

Well, if he just compiled it, it's no wonder the sound was bad... XRick doesn't check if the sound specs returned from the initialization is what it actually wanted... It asks for an 8 bit unsigned sound channel, which isn't supported (because AHI doesn't, either), so he _would_ have to use a converted, or another native format.

With a few changes, I changed the native format to the (supported) signed 8 bit, and the sound is "OK".

Nope, that's an OS4 Depot feature. It's an Info page for this file, listing useful information.
