| Can someone gives some details about what RSS is? Many thanks.
BTW, Hey Max, what about releasing it with OS4? I mean, as an official part of it. Last edited by elwood on 13-Nov-2004 at 03:20 PM.

| Oooh, excellent!
Here are some more RSS feeds:
Utilitybase: http://utilitybase.com/backend.php polarBoing: http://polarboing.com/backend.php AmiRepo: http://amirepo.net/feed Amiga.org: http://amiga.org/backend.php
@Max:
Could you add support for the <image> tag in RSS2.0 ? (didn't see any pics in the screenshot at least)
@Elwood:
RSS/RDF is a standard for providing headlines with some content and metadata, most news sites provide them and let's you use a ticker or a reader to browse headlines and short descriptions instead of using a normal browser. In addition you can pull the headlines frequently to notice when new items arrive, and example is the !aw command in #amigaworld on irc.amigaworld.net ;)
Used < and > instead of ;) Last edited by nicomen on 13-Nov-2004 at 04:15 PM.

| I don't know if i should cry or laugh...
I've also started a RSS reader a couple of weeks ago and it looks like a copy of X-Net RSS (or vice versa), not knowing of X-Net RSS.. I haven't worked a while on it, but reading the posts about RSS the last time, i just wanted to start working on it again..
Well, luckily i visited aw.net before, so i can save the time, forget about RSS and think about how and which parts of the already written code i could reuse..
That's life i guess : _________________ Regards, Cyborg. AmigaOS4 development team member

| Cyborg,
hey - don't fret. Use the RSS-parser for some other purpose instead of a plain reader. I think a screen blanker with a RSS news ticker would be really nice (I'd have a go at it myself, had I had an AmigaOS 4.0 system).
The screen blanks after a given number of seconds of inactivity, the RSS feed kicks in and hey presto - live news on your screen, CNN style.
Good luck, Peter _________________ That'll Put Marzipan In Your Pie Plate, Bingo 💻 Pro-Amiga, 🌍 Pro-Globalism, 🍅 Pro-Vegan, 🛦 Pro-NATO & 🇪🇺 Pro-Joint EU Defense Intervention Initiative

That's why I would prefer if people could stop working each on their side. It would be better if all the people could all work (together) for OS4.
What I mean is: What happens often, is that you give publically information about a nice feature you would like to add to OS4. And automatically all the people out there rip the idea and do their own stuff. If we could find a way to have all of us the same goal: pushing AmigaOS into the future, we could all work together.
I would love to see a part of AW, dedicated to further developments. A place where all coders could say: "hey, I have a idea. Who wants to work with me?"
But it's probably utopia... _________________ Philippe 'Elwood' Ferrucci Sam460 1.10 Ghz AmigaOS 4 betatester Amiga Translator Organisation

Yes, can't enough second that.
Some days ago i proposed a similiar idea in some other thread.. a central place, where running/planned projects or the idea to some projects are handled. Additionally with some kind of job market, where people can offer their skills and other people (i.e. team leader) can search for the needed man power.. think about it: how much projects can't be done, simply because 1 graphician or musician or coder or documentation writer, etc. is missing?
Oh well.. much possibilities... and because we aren't living in a perfect world.. _________________ Regards, Cyborg. AmigaOS4 development team member

So following your logic you could say, "hey what about adding an 'Ideas' category on the developer site utilitybase.com" ;) _________________ Nicolas Mendoza

That's a good start. But why to code for AmigaDE? Ok, there's OS4 too. _________________ Philippe 'Elwood' Ferrucci Sam460 1.10 Ghz AmigaOS 4 betatester Amiga Translator Organisation

AmigaDEV not AmigaDE
The site is for AmigaOS (classic), AmigaOS 4.0 and AmigaDE.

btw. there is a site out there that still is managed:
No Amiga To Waste http://thunderstorms.org/NATW
This is a website that collects ideas, comments and wishes of users. the content can be freely consulted as long as every programmer reports what idea he's working on and how the development progresses. Even though the website is dated, a reply from the maintainer recently assured that it was still maintained. The database has also been updated throughout the last year. _________________ Nicolas Mendoza

| Super!
Now, I'd love to have a desktop-tool that displays an rss feed transparent on my workbench. Something like the gDesklets do in Gnome.
Like this.
