| Heh, well "explained", anyway
In 1990 we were using 10 years old, battle proven, storage technology. Nowadays we're lucky if they even test it for 3 months before shipping the new ideas. And frankly I'm beginning to see some problems with that. _________________ This weeks pet peeve: Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). Sometimes I don't even know what people mean.

| well since 100% of the Amiga community can't view such a thing on their machines a explanation of the anim would be an idea?
i certainly have no ways of viewing it so...and i am interested in what it holds. _________________ See my blog and collection website! . https://www.blog.amigaguru.com

| here is the explanation (which I found to be " hey why did'nt anyone think of this before). All data bits on your drive are placed flat (on their backs if you could imagine bits in 3 demensional space) taking up a considerbal amount of space on your physical hard disk. What if that info could be oriented not to lie flat but stand up right? It would create a space increase. According to Hitachi an increase of 10 folds thus a 3gig =30 gigs a 40gig drive =400 gigs etc...
Pretty smart but the whole catch is -new hardware (drives using this new bit placment arrangment) Last edited by Hitback on 11-Apr-2005 at 08:08 PM.

| No.. I am quite sure this is not a joke, and a real innovation. It's just that the Flash animation is rather amusing _________________ Founder of NWAG - North West Amiga Group

No it true, thats just how the Flash anim explains how they increased the Hard disk capacity, getting the bytes/bits to stand up _________________ Everything is proceeding as I have foreseen

| Actually the technique is over 100 years old, according to Hitachi. It just didn't hold any interest until physical limitations of the currently popular technique started staring the engineers in the face. _________________ Life without the LORD is like a soap bubble without the soap. | @Billsey:
Quite right, I remember that announcement from way back (about 10 years ago). I thought it was responsible for the increase in storage densities that we already have. If they haven't implemented it yet, then we are up for a new generation of magnetic storage. _________________ cheers tony

| Hehe.. You punny humans will obey anything I tells yah to wear/do...
Lets see..
Teddy Boys looking cool in pink suits - check! Rough bikers with girly long hair - check! Disco being cool and platform shoes being fashionable - check! 80's short sleeve shirts with metal strips and cheap nasty digital watches - check! Mosher clothes bought from fashion stores - check! Shell suits (No explanation offered) - check! Anti-Fit jeans - check!
All I need is a way to get people to wear jesus sandals again and I can complete the set. I win a free holiday to Burton-on-Trent if I complete it first. That damned other collector has caught up with me with his "chav" range (Lights under cars, The name "Tracy", concert speakers in car, rubbish tartan hats.. The swine!)
