Software News   Software News : Feelin beta 050819 available
posted by MikeB on 20-Aug-2005 9:18:54 (4526 reads)
Olivier Laviales released a new beta version (download) of his open source project Feelin.

"Feelin is a new object-oriented system (OOS) for the AmigaOS. It provides two things: A small shared library, fast and powerful (the object-system core), offering everything needed to create a complete object-oriented environnement; And an extensible system to create and maintain GUIs."

Har anyone tried this under OS4 yet? If so, what are your experience? Does it work at all?

Hey, i'm pretty sure that MUI4 for MorphOS has been using Feelin to create these kind of GUIs for it! I don't doubt this would make it easy to port MUI4 for OS4, and allow the user to customize the GUI to look as good as these!

I think this tool is for developers, and it could very well mean developers could easily port MUI4 for OS4. I'm really sure MUI4s' GUI is using Feelin to create the kind of GUIs we see in the screenshots

I don't really like MUI, but for compatibility, it would be necessary to also improve the look of it by this way

@ Helgis
Feelin has nothing to do with MUI. It's totally new.

According to the author, it's very easy to port.
It takes few hours to make a MOS port.
Sources are avalaible on the Feelin website.

Hi everyone !

The GUI look don't meant anything ! My Window environment is skined with a MacOS theme, that doesn't make my PC a Mac, does it ? (because I whish)

MUI and Feelin are not related in any way. They are as distinct as a "Cat" and "Desk", even if a cat can sleep on a desk, which is not nice since the cat's fur is attracted by the magnetic field of the monitor and ends up all around the desk (and mouse wheels !).

Technically speaking (boring !) MUI is based on BOOPSI, and Feelin is an object oriented framework on its own, with it's own memory system, lovely features for developers and highly customizable by users.

Thus, all I can say is customization And because Feelin supports PNG's alpha channel, all I can say is sweet customization

Indeed. I'd say you have some several hundred people here with an AmigaOne of some sort, and a certain number of them willing to give your software a try. I know I will.

Stop taking those pills! It MAKES you hallucinate

Btw Feelin' doesn't look like MUI anymore than Amiga OS1.3 look like Amiga OS4.0!

You guys have to give me some hints to create a OS4 native version, because all I know is OS3 and a lot of things have change since e.g. libraries.

This is not a compliment ! Strangely I would have done the comparison in the other way e.i. Feelin being OS4

the cat's fur is attracted by the magnetic field of the monitor

A fur is not ferromagnetic, so it can't be attracted by magnetic field. It is attracted by electric charge created by high voltage inside the monitor. The solution is simple - buy an LCD panel .

Sorry! It wasn't my meaning at all with that sentence. I merely pointed out that NONE
of your screenshots even remotly looks like MUI3.x, or 4.x for that matter.

Not that it couldn't though with your high possibility for configuration.

Why not make a real screenshot (not a mockup) which is configured to look like some
of the real OSes out there just to show of the power of Feelin?
This would impress me a hell of alot more than "all the colors in the rainbow" screenshots..
