Didn't bother with the upgrade. Too much hassle to return the CD, and it doesn't actually say what the upgrade fee is anywhere in the english pages _________________ OS4 Rocks X1000 beta tester, Sam440 Flex (733)

| Does it support syntax highlighting at least for C/C++? I've gotten a bit spoilt over the past few years, and have come to rely on this feature to find simple mistakes in my code before I try to compile programs. |

Sorry, I was too lazy to create screenshots for all operating system variants. I don't know if you noticed, but there are different sets of screenshots for the german and the english language versions. Multiply that by two for the 68k and OS4 versions...
Anyway, I rather spent the time building the ISO image for the CD
The features in the OS4 and 68k versions are the same. The GUI does look nicer on OS4 though |

No, sorry. This is possibly the most frequently requested feature, but it's really tough to implement. Not because of the parser (plenty of existing designs one could borrow ideas from), but because of how CygnusEd translates what's in the document buffer into what goes onto the screen. I've got two ideas how to make syntax colouring happen, but none of them really satisfies me. Both would double the memory requirements for documents, and that's not good. |

| how about making it switchable? we have more than 2mb's of ram these days, most people have 256mb, some have 512mb and it's not like you work with 256mb documents every day. yes, syntax hi-lightning would be very nice.
... or, how about rewriting that part of the code? how much work would it require? it's a commercial app afterall, and this feature will boost sales. Last edited by spotUP on 06-Jun-2006 at 09:05 PM.

I hope you find a solution.
It must be difficult as my favourite Mac text editor (skedit) does most things brilliantly, but the syntax colouring is often dodgy.
Anyway, I used CygnusED years ago, so if I ever get the new hardware, I'll be buying a copy...

Yes. In fact, I just finished working on the demo version. All that's left to do is check if it works well on OS4. |

| Superb! CygnusEd comes back! If I ever get some OS4 HW I'll definitely buy CEd. Last edited by yak on 07-Jun-2006 at 02:40 PM.

Me too. It's great to see new versions of key software but not so great when those that want to support it cannot do through lack of hardware.
A great pity as I am sure sales will be much improved once OS4 and the hardware to run it on are finished. _________________ Sam

Can you share what 2 ideas do you have ? It would be a cool interesting thread. Maybe some of us will come up with a brilliant solution if we dedicate some though to it. From what I remember CEd deals with a whole buffer of text as ASCII values and that's why attaching attributes to the data would be difficult right ? Is one of the ideas using a LONG instead of a BYTE for characters ? _________________
